Hi Guys,

I had water leaking into the footwell through the bonnet release grommet which is now fixed, but I still have water sitting on the drivers door step. It isn't leaking into the footwell, but I want to get all the water problems sorted before re-fitting carpet!

Any ideas where it is coming from??

Cheers

Search for water leak problems there is loads on here about it. one of the most common problems for these cars as well as the coolant sensor prongs.

I cleaned the seal on the bottom of the door and made sure the drain holes were free after i sealed my doors and my carpets are bone dry.

I was quoted around £180 but did it myself following a guide on the forum.

I cant post a link but the title is Water leak into footwell - dodgy seal info and DIY repair guide

Thanks guys, it's not actually leaking into the footwell.....I solved that one already! The water just sits on top of the door step. Was just wondering how much a door seal is. Its a piece of p1$$ to change it!

Think about it logically.
What is the only thing above the door step/sill?

Yes the door carrier. There is the biggest thread on here and it's about this exact problem.
Link, seeing as you have missed it :p

its your door seals, once it gets over that its in your footwell, fix it asap, having suffered with getting almost 5 litres of water out of it, i would hasten to do it

It wasn't leaking from there into the footwell. It came into the footwell through the bulkhead.

And logically, there is the door seal, door carrier seal, door moulding, draft excluder (bit between window and glass), glass seal, and the seal between the two doors!

I bag seen that thread before but don't want to rip the door apart and fill it with silicone un-necessarily or buy a door seal if I don't need to! ;)

For the water to sit on it, it as to come from above.
Seriously just do the carrier seal, check some of the last pages thee is stuff on ebay called butyl and it's on a roll, once you have done it with that, you can forget about them :)

Ok, I will do the carrier seals, and dependant on price the drivers door seal. (there is one SLIGHTLY kinked corner to it.....better safe than sorry!

Is the butyl roll stuff better than silicone then?.....amd if the butyl is best, is the link of 10x10mm the best size to get?

Thanks

I did my drivers door and the rear passenger side with the VAG Butyl in the last 2 weeks and now I have no condensation on front or rear windscreen or damp smell. :)
The snow will be a big test but (touch wood) should be fine.
I will do the remaining nearside two doors next year when the weather is warmer as they are still ok.

Hi again! Having fixed my original leak, I now have a different one on the passengers side......Water sitting on top of the door seal as well as the door step! It is tricking over into the footwell :( Does this side need a new butyl seal??

Il gatecrash this thread aswell then as it seems 3 of my 4 doors need doing from what I read on here.

I have two puddles in the back of car one in each footwell and whenever it rains as said above a load of water on the "doorstep" of the drivers door which goes on ur feet if ur not careful when opening door.

Do I need this butyl stuff to sort this then as I have seen the guide on the thread so wil give it a go very soon if this is the case?
Cheers

Is the 10mm butyl big enough then as there are different sizes or do I want bigger as never seen behind a door card so I'm just going totally off of this forum which I must ad has saved me a shed load of money lately with all the stuff that's gone wrong wi my car?
