Boot Trouble

silly question i know but its really doing my head in,

whenever i shut my boot unless i slam it really hard it comes unlocked and rattles when im driving, when i took my car in a few weeks ago to have the wing mirror fixed i mentioned it to them and when i picked it up they said they had adjusted it but it still does it.

i have to slam it really really hard, has anyone else had this problem? is there something i can do myself to fix it??

Have a check of the mechanism, I think you need to remove the boot's inside plastic cover to get a proper look at the working parts of the boot catch.

It sounds as though a spring/hook has come away or failed somehow.

I have the same problem, I think its quite common. Also it occasionally will not open. I was told it just needs oiled or greased as its probably dried up and isnt lubricated now.

ah right, thank you both for your help, ive never had a problem with it not opening just coming loose, it worries me incase im on the motorway and it flies open, thanks again

i had the same problem with mine.

try using grease, that worked for me,

mine wouldnt shut properly for weeks

now its all works haha

As above, try adjusting the boot catch first; may be too slack, but a once adjusted a good grease will keep it operating smoothly, its still a moving part so a little lubrication will help in the long run
