If they never had on blue lights, you could have a case for them driving without due care and attention, or dangerous driving.

They will make sure they cover their own backs in court. It will go like this:- We were patrolling the area and our attention was drawn to (DanH) because his speed was excessive. And that will be the end of it.

Does make me laugh people saying how much they hate the police. Id like to see poeple deal with half the amount of cr*p they have to put up with on a daily basis.

I wouldn't say I hate the police as they have a job to do and I admit speeding and will not argue it in court as I would prefer remorse and to keep my license, I don't admit part of the officers statement which said further up the road (he chased me without displaying blue lights) I was sat at a red light revving excessivly and rolling forward... Bit hard when I have a DSG gearbox... and it is not something I would do if I didn't have DSG

However that being said I have had problems with the police in the past, I had got in from a night out around 5am, pretty wasted and was sat in my lounge, next thing somelittle scrote comes through the window (behind the curtain) so I grab the fu***r and throw him out of the front door giving him a swift smack around the chops on the way out. I ring the police to inform them of this and they try to arrest me because when they caught him his t-shirt was ripped and he claimed he knew me and I let him into the house. As I was obviously drunk they took his version of events. If you have had a drink it is my impression the police are simply told to take no notice of what you say. That is my bad experience with the police and for me I won't be ringing them next time I get burgled, I will be locking the little p***k in my shed

Re car being tailgated by Police car, this happened to a GF of mine years ago Police sat on her bumper and scared her S less, as she thought she was going to get done over she booted it and then the blue lights came on. She pulled over and was crying etc with fright and received and apology from the coppers.
The point I am making if the car was unmarked not displaying blue lights and or siren you could possibly have being in fear of your safety which you probably were.

Happened to a mate of mine about 10 years ago... he's not a boy racer at all and was driving his first car that couldn't go quick anyway (something small, practical and boring he got second hand from his granny iirc).
A white van started driving right up his chuff and then chased him for many miles, scaring him witless in the process. His passenger was on the phone to 999 explaining they seemed to be under attack by a white van man with road rage... when the very same van put some (hidden) blue lights on and they stopped.
My mate explained he'd only driven fast to try to escape their aggression - and had been trying to call 999 - as they seemed to be trying to drive him off the road and was actually relieved they were police... they seemed to accept that and just drove off again, without apologising.

I think the reason police are disliked so much is incidents like that one: they treat victims and ordinary citizens with pretty much the same contempt that they should reserve for actual criminals. That said, they have a very hard job to do and very little recognition for doing it. I'll readily admit that I couldn't do their job but that doesn't mean they should act with impunity either.

Both the above posts are why I use the 'roundabout manoeuvre'. If I think someone is tailing me, at the next roundabout I do two or three laps of it, if they follow then you know you have a problem of some sort or another, then it's up to you how you deal with it but I don't let people push me to go faster.

Best option when being tailgated is to drive to a police statio, sit outside and just sit on the horn! That will get some attention. ;)

I had a simialr experience years ago with an unmarked car with no lights or sirens. The difference was my drunk passenger swore at the car as we passed which resulted in a 6 mile chase. We thought we were getting chased by some nasty people but turned out to be the police. If they had sirens we would have stopped. We all got searched in the end and told to get on our way. There was a slight hitch. I was driving m mums car which was broken into a week before and all the ignition wires were hanging out

Another better option is drive a car that is quicker than theirs. ;)

I once had an 'officer' try and tell me that my heavily modified Subaru at the time couldn't out run his astray.... Laughed, I almost wet myself.

At around 03:30-04:00 in the morning, I was returning home after working in a nightclub. Still in staff uniform and sticking of booze I had a 20 minute conversation with him, now keep in mind I have lived in the area all my life and he had a heavy Scottish accent. I informed him that there were two things on his car that I couldn't out run. Seeing as it took him almost 2 miles to catch up with me, and I was sitting at a set of red traffic lights letting the car cool down as I'd not long come off the motorway.

1, his blue lights.
2, his radio.

When he asked how I was so confident I pointed out the ever so slight power differences between the cars.

Sometimes they don’t help themselves, you know it's a bit like the idiot reporter asking dumb questions in interviews. There are some good cops out there, but forget to treat people as humans!

mate years ago would try and race anyone off the lights if someone gave him a go at the lights. He got 'set up' by the police as well.

He had a RS Escort sat at a set of traffic lights when a unmarked omega pulled up next to him. the guy was glaring at him, revving his engine so of course the nugget went flying off at the traffic lights and got nicked.

Think licolnshire has the best selection of cars at the moment. Evo's, scoobies, M5's and the newest edition a lexus ISF.

Oh and theres a couple of unmarked Focus ST kicking round cambridge

All we have in the north east (from what i've seen) are unmarked focus', a few bmws and some volvos.

We have nowt fancy like you southeners!!!!

You can tell which ones are un marked police cars, none of them have dealership stickers in the rear windows and don't have any sort of information on the license plate (e.g the dealership name).....oh yeah, they also sit at 65 mph until you start to over take and then speed up to try and catch you out ;)

and from what i have seen, coppers dont drive three door cars and i thought they would never have a sat-nav on but recently ive seen a few with them so ive given up on that aspect, these days i keep my eye out for magic trees etc as i sail past :)
