How cold is your aircon?

Random question, but how cold is your aircon.
If you switch it to low is it really cold, freezing your hand if in front of the vents?
Or just cool?

I dont think mine is very cool, but I know some cars have better aircon than others, so would like to get feedback from you lot.

Only had my Exeo for just over a month and no really warm weather to test the aircon yet. However, I had an A4 for a few years previously which has the same A/C system and I can't recall it being hand freezing temperature at the vents. You can tell quite easily if the A/C isnt working effectively since the fan speed is controlled by the unit (assuming in Auto) and should reduce speed relatively quickly if the A/C is effective. On a reasonably warm day, say 22+, I used to find that if working properly, the fan speed was reducing in a couple of minutes from starting and that it would be at minimum by the time I'd travelled a couple of miles down the motorway. When it needed regassing, which it did twice in 6 years, then the fan was still running high speed for 15 min or more and it needed the A/C switching to recirc to help it reduce the car temperature.

Hmm good cal on the fan speed.
When going home tonight I will see what happens on auto.
I have a feeling the reason I think there is something up is because it seemed to be going full pelt on auto still after 10 mins.

A definitive test will help though.
I assume its not covered under warranty if it needs regassing in under 3 years?

I thought you'd just got your Exeo and it was only about a year old ?
My A4 didn't need regassing in the first three years IIRC but then once regassed it only lasted 18 months or so. In your case I would argue that if it needs doing at 1 year then it is faulty and should be covered by the warranty.

That definitely doesnt sound right, when working properly on my A4, even on hot days, it was starting to back the fan speed off by the time I got a few hundred yards from the office. Ok, I checked for you on my way home. It was 24 deg and sunshine when I left the office at 4:30. My a/c is set at 20.5 and initially the fan went to max but by the 2nd set of traffic lights (about 400 yards) the fan was down to normal(well almost!). The air coming out of the vents was cold but not freezing, much the same as my old A4 when the a/c was working ok. The fan remained slightly above normal (4 bars instead of 3) for a while, but that was due to the sensor being in direct sunlight (driving due West) and something I've also seen with the A4. Once I turned South a bit it dropped back to the normal Idle(3 bars).
All-in-all the same as I'd come to expect with the A4, but then again its basically the same system but with the Cabriolet dash and a/c vents.
Hope that helps.

I did the test, and your right it doesnt sit at full blast for very long.
I think the issue may have been originally that the econ button was pressed.

Funny you asked this as I considered mine to be lacking as well.

Set to 16 degrees on a hot day and mine won't get there, so the fan is blowing at full chat all the time. So, eventually, I'll have to turn the temp back up, or the fan down manually, as it will do my head in after a while.

However, if the vent is pointing at me, I will have a cold face! I thought I read/heard somewhere that the air from the vents should be around 6 degrees when working normally.

I'm finding that my air con is a bit pants too. All my previous cars and my company car will cool the car to the point of (I can't handle it any more) on LOW and I crank it up to about 18-19. With the Exeo I can drive 2 hours on LOW on a grey day and it's not really really cold. Having said that the fan speed does drop and stay on about 2-3 bars when set to LOW. Is this normal or is my aircon weak?

Took the car on a long drive yesterday (4hrs) as I'm on holiday this week away from home. The weather got a bit warm so I put the air con on. It didn't work very well as said in my previous post, then after a few mins it stopped refrigerating all together. I now have no air con at all. with only 8k miles on the clock I'm guessing there must be a leak. I've only had the car a couple of weeks so I'm not best pleased and getting ready for the dealers to try and charge me for repairing the leak because it's probably going to be a stone through the grill causing the damage I would have thought.

I will ring them today and book it in :censored:

Anyone know any hot spots to look for air con leaks on an Exeo? I think the compressor is kicking in OK, the engine changes tone if the air con is switched on-off.

^^^^Did you see what I did there?

Not good to hear, hope you get it sorted.

Which reminds me not heard back from my dealer since they damaged my car and needed to order and fit a replacement.

The air con worked today  but as before not as cold as I would expect. Could my gas level be low causing the system to have poor refrigeration and on odd times none at all?

My air con is much better now, nice and cold. My dealer did a re-gas and checked everything to make sure there were no leaks. They said the system is holding pressure fine  They have added a dye to the gas and told me to bring it back if it gets lazy again. All free of charge and any subsequent work (if needed) will be free too as I've only had the car for a few weeks and it's only 6 months old.

If you don't use it for a while it will go off and need re-gassing. I use it in winter (i heat the interior up very warm first), once a week only for about 15mins and it seems to work well come summer. Very cold at the vents, i measure the temp some times and if it's 4-6degrees C at the vent it's ok.
