Advice needed re MK1 LCR purchase

Hi there,

I'm based in Dublin and currently in the market for a MK1 LCR, there is an LCR available on Autotrader.ie from a dealer based in northern ireland which I'm interested in.

I spoke briefly with the dealer yesterday who confirmed he got the car from a private company in Scotland. The car has a clean HIP report however the dealer does not have a full Seat service history for the car. The lack of service history is obviously a cause for concern, I was thinking of viewing the car in the coming days to see what it's like.

Is the lack of fssh enough to rule out a viewing of this car?
Any advice on the above would be much appreciated.*

Thanks.

I would still view the car, when ever i buy a car even if its had fsh i always have it serviced straight away for peace of mind. When was the car last serviced and how many miles has the car done from new ?

When you say 'Seat service history' do you mean done at main dealers, or just that there are gaps in the service history. If the former, then it might be worth seeing what that place it was. It might have been VAG specialists or the like, in which case, its not really an issue, as they would be more than competent.

Hi Sambryant,

Thanks for your reply, it's a 2005 car with 67k on the clock. Dealer said he'd do the timing prior to sale, I'd also expect him to do water pump as well. The car does look mint (from the ad on autotrader anyway), dealer is looking for £4,995. I wound need to factor another €2,500 on top of that for import duty thanks to our thieving import taxes down south. Buying locally is not really an option due to the rarity of these cars down south.

Cheers

Hey Jonathan_phang, not sure to be honest as the dealer said he didn't have the sevice history when I inquired about it? Not sure why but would obviously ask again if I decide to view car.

Ah right - if he cant produce anything then definitely get it fully checked over... The history, or lack of it, can be an indication of how the car has been treated.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll go take a look at the car tomorrow and see it in the flesh and have a further chat with the dealer. I'll definitely get the car inspected if I wish to proceed with a purchase. Anyone know of any good vag specialist in Belfast? Maybe an AA inspection might suffice?

Wow ! So the car will stand you £7500!!!!! That's alot ! I think you would be better getting one off the guys off here as all the little niggles that the car has ie door seals etc will more than likely be dine plus other things and I know that the guys and gals in here look after their cars!

Yep that's right Ak, I get stung with import duty which I think is around €2.5k so that's a bitch. I agree with you though, sourcing an LCR from this forum is probably a better option however its a bit more difficult given I'm based across the pond. Having said that, if I found the right car at the right money I would travel to view/purchase.

Don't expect anything tell them to change it or it will be another £300 out of your pocket when it fails.
