can be done with vagcom, or as follows

Service intervals: resetting without central diagnosis -VAS 5051-
(using the time and the odometer buttons on the dash panel insert)
During
t each inspection service,
the service interval display must be reset.
To reset the counter you must:
– Turn the ignition off.

– Keep button -1- next to the speedometer pressed and connect the ignition at the same time.
On the mileage display the word "service" will appear.

– Release the switch -1-.
– Turn the adjusting button -1- next to the speedometer, to the right.
The service type that appears on the odometer is reset and (- - -) appears on the display
After resetting the service interval display, the last partial mileage or the next service type will reappear.
– Turn the ignition off.

Hope that works for u always do mine with vagcom

Here's a bit of a clearer option :D

turn ignition OFF,
press and hold trip reset button,
switch ON ignition,
release trip rest button,
turn trip button clockwise until it goes out.
igniton OFF,
Igniton ON.
