Hi,

Just after a bit of advice. After checking my oil level today I noticed it is sitting on the "MIN" line. I rang my local SEAT dealer up and they told me to only use Longlife SEAT or VW oils as any other could damage the engine.

Now I think this is utter crap. Just wondered what oil you guys use? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The car is a company car and done 18k so I only want a cheap oil as its due for its 2nd service in 2k, and I think they change the oil on the 2nd service don't they?

Cheers

Costs a fortune. I paid something daft like £35 for 5L

Voids the warranty if you use something different iirc.

You'll be wanting anything that has VW507.00 certification, such as Castrol Edge or Mobil 1 ESP. If in doubt check the back of the bottle.

yep Longlife III is the recomended one for the FR and the vast majority of VAG Diesels now. i'm still using Quantum Platinum (new name for PD oil) but since i have had it remaped then I may go for the Longlife III oil. apparently it does not break down as much as PD oils.

Thanks for all your comments.

I’ve just been on Halfords website and the one that is up to specification (VW 507 00) is £15.49 for 1 litre (Castrol Edge 5W30).

As its going in for a 2nd service (oil change) in 2000 miles is it really worth me topping up? do you think I will get away with it until then or is it running a risk?

Yep, Castrol Edge 5W30 fully synthetic (meeting VW507 spec) is what you need (well what VW/SEAT use) . I personally would top it up, even if you do only need to do 2000 mile till next service. I've had to top mine up after covering just 2000miles, and been told by VW specialist that these drink oil so keep your eye on it.
