Hi all

Just a wee problem im having with the car and i wondered if anyone had a similar experience or indeed any ideas as to the problem.

The car in question is a 2008 FR TDI Leon it has 49k miles on the clock and has been fully serviced by seat dealers since new.

The problem has happened on several occasions now, everytime at a garage. The car seems to be drive normally and I pull into the garage to get a few things and when i go to restart the car it wont start. It tries to turn over but wont start. I must add there are no fault lights or anything appearing on the dash and all lights work properly.
However if i leave the car for 10-15minutes then try restarting the car it usually starts ok.

This problem seems to be very intermittent but its getting very annoying. I have read with dread the problems about the injectors and im beginning to wonder if this is perhaps a possible sign that and injector is on its way out.

Has anyone had the same or similar problems?

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Fergy

I have 2.0 140 TDI with the same issue.

Starts fine from cold but struggles after it has had any sort of run & has got up to running temperature.

It has done this since new & both before & after a remap (Superchips). I have also fitted the smaller orifice gasket to the EGR to sort out a slight cold running issue but still the warm start problem persists.

I notice it more now after recently moving. I have a 25 mile mainly motorway commute & stop for a paper a mile from the office & have to hold it on the starter longer to get it to catch. Have taken to having a quick cigarette now before trying which does help!!

Anyway, I'd be really interested to hear if anyone else has have this problem & has hopefully had it sorted.

Cheers

You say it tries to turn over. Do you mean that its not actually turning over? Sounds like a starter motor issue to me mate. If it is turning over then i would say its fuel related, so check fuel pump relay and yes check the injectors. Take it to a garage and see if they have an injector spill off tester and hook it up to that, or see if they can check it via diagnostic cable. Is it not under warrenty?

I have the exact same problem but in a 1.9tdi sport. Cold mornings it will start and after quite a drive if i turn it off and try turning it on again it will turn over for about 5-10 secs and then fire up..

Hi Fergy

Glad to hear you have found the problem. Was it expensive to have the sensor changed?

If not to much think I might have mine done too.

Cheers

Hi Shadders

No prices yet i will look into it this week. Ive seen the crank sensors from 30quid but might just leave it into the garage and get them to make sure its cured for good. Once i get some prices ill post up and leyt you know

Sorry all for the late update, but i only get this sorted on Friday past.

The garage changed the crank sensor which cost £250 but seat uk offered to pay 45% so im fairly happy with that. the job is a real pain and involved the garage removing the timing belt. So if this is happening to you it might be a good idea to get both done together.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fergie

Thanks for the update. Did it actually cure the warm starting issue & have you had any problems since?

Also, would anything detrimental happen if I left this for now? I don't want to leave if it will damage the engine or anything else.

Cheers
