Light bulb warning light

The light bulb warning light came on the dash the other day.I pulled over and checked the lights, it turned out both rear indicators were not working(when indicating the indicator sound was much faster than normal).I switched the engine off and on and the warning light disappeared.Do you think this is a bulb problem or dodgy electrics?

My bulb light came on last week and it turned out to be a lose wire. After spending an 40 mins messing about with bulbs and multimeters and then plugging in the computer, they had to book it in for the next day to sort it. All done under warranty.

Nice to have bulb warning light as I'd have taken a couple of days to notice that I had no rear light on one side without it.

Just an update on this one.The dealer replaced the ecu under warranty, they think this will fix the problem.

I had the warning light come on yesterday but that was because i fitted some Led side light bulbs and it did not like them.
They were bright to start with but then they both turned off when the cars ecu picked them up some how.

Does ecu need changing or some wires needs to be connected better? Have same problem but sounds to expensive to change ecu after warranty:(

My November 09 TDI has had the bulb warning coming on intermittently over the past month, with various bulbs not lighting. At it's worst the was no front off side dipped, no rear nearside light and no left indicators. Stopping and starting again seems to make it go away. It went in a month ago and they replaced the number plate bulb that had blown but the problem continued. It is now back in the service garage and they are trying to track it down. When I spoke they said some of the bulb housings showed signs of heat damage. Is there anyone else who has had strange lighting issues?
Would you suspect the ecu?

Rear stop & tail bulb has a nasty habit of corroding on the bulb holder and throwing bulb warning lights. The affected side is slightly dimmer than the other side due to the corrosion.

Provided it's not too bad then yes it can be cleaned up. If it's got too bad and the corrosion has eaten away the terminal then a new bulb holder will be the answer.

I have had this problem with the rear bulb holders a few times now, and would you
believe it, it has just done it again tonight. I got home and got the wife to check which one it was - the nearside one - but on turning the engine off and re-starting, it cleared the warning lamp and worked fine. Time to clean the contacts in the bulb holder again methinks !!!!

Remove the rear light by undoing the two Torx screws in the gutter section where the tailgate closes, and then there's a plastic wheel head nut in the hatch hole inside the boot area. This unscrews (by feel as you can't really see) and then the whole light unit comes out.

The bulb holder is fixed to the rear of the light unit with two screws, and once removed the bulb holder pops off. Remove the bulb and use either a glass fibre pen, emery paper, a sharp screwdriver etc. to clean up the terminals.
