Pre-FL to FL Conversion, anyone done it?

Hi,

I currently have a 61 plate Leon Copa Ecomotive TDI while my FR is away being fixed after the crash. I'm really liking having the facelift model, the interior is really nice, the Copa has Sat Nav unit with DAB and outputs to the MFD which is nice. Also has the dimming mirror with the red LEDs. I also like the new style bootlid and front end.

Has anyone swapped any of their pre-fl parts for fl parts?

* Is the front end upgrade just a case of FL bumper and headlights? Does it all fit the original screw holes and mountings?

* Can I replace the climate control unit and headunit for FL ones?

Thanks

I think the tailgate has been done by some as it is a straight swap. The front will be more tricky as the wings, bonnet, grille and headlights would need changed, as would the bumper.

Inside, you would probably have your work cut out too - I am not sure the connections on the rear of the FL heater controls will be the same as the pre facelift, but don't have access to ETKA to know from where I am now.

Cost wise, if you could get the dash, front bumper, headlights, front wings, bootlid, grille from a scrapper, fit them, paint them etc, and consider that this would probably de-value your car, the cost to do it may be a lot more than you think. 59 plate FL cars are out there and they are getting cheaper all the time :)

Alternatively, as this will cost a fortune to do, just buy a facelift FR :whistle::p

In all seriousness, I mean it

If you look at it, the difference in the cars is £3½k

Can you seriously buy all the new headlights, a tailgate, 2 bumpers, all the grilles (you'll need to buy these separate), have them sprayed to match your car, do all the fitting, etc etc etc, all for £3½k or under

The FL also has a totally different electrical system as well with a newer version of canbus from the Golf MKIV. Things like the climate control are not backwards compatible either. Better off buying a FL model from 2009>

Its only the bumper that is different up front. wings bonet headlights etc are the same. I parked my pre face lift next to my uncles 2011 cupra r and its just the bumper on the front. Which I have bought to face lift mine with at some point when I get some spare time.

Oops. No mention of it in the current sale. Kinda figures it was a damage repairable car with that much work going in to making it look like the facelift. Looks great apart from the square plate too.

Saw both examples on Carzone.ie car sales site recently; a white pre-facelift with facelift front end, and a facelift Reference with pre-facelift nose and door mirrors....

Sorry, I'm fairly sure the facelift grilles are smaller, and the headlights are bigger
