Hey lads/ladies, basically my back discs are wrecked, pitted and there's now chunks falling out of the surface. Thinking about upgrading to grooved discs all round and I'm just looking for some recommendations on what you guys are using?

You could go Brembo Max all round? I've only ever run them on the front with plain Brembos on the back, but they did the trick on my 6N 16v and my mapped 9N TDI Polos.

When I changed mine I went to standard brembos purely because regardless what you put on it wont make any real difference to performance. If I was changing the fronts to drilled/grooved I would.change the rears to.match

Only want the grooves go the performance look really, thinking about doing the wheels black or maybe even gold when I've put spacers on so I really want everything behind it looking smart :) brembos sound like a good shout though!

Agreed on performance-I'd take good quality plain disc over most grooved stuff out there. If it's a looks issue, the plain ATE discs have painted edges and centres to prevent corrosion, think standard Brembos have something similar.

How about these Black Diamond discs Lawrie?

I have the bog standard Brembo discs front and rear on my FR and they're good. No problems whatsoever. When I fitted them I liked the build quality of the discs and would go with the Brembo Max discs over the Black Diamond drilled and grooved jobs even though I suppose the Black Diamond jobs look more sporty.

Black discs don't stay black lawrie, it's just a coating that wears off. The dimples/grooves stay black and contrast the silver though!

I've had ATE PowerDiscs and Brembo Max and would have either again-didn't mention ATEs this time as ECP have stopped listing them (for my PD100 at least). If anyone finds a stockist, please share! I know you can get them in Europe, but postage tends to be prohibitive.
Slightly off-topic, there's also ATE PowerPads - I'm curious to try these, but they've never been available in the UK to my knowledge; when I asked ECP to order me some in a few years back, they wouldn't do it due to some deal they had with EBC! Again, if anyone knows anything, I'd be interested...

Any grooves will end up black (or at least darker than the disc face) - the pads won't make contact, hence won't clean any deposits off.

Those black diamonds are a bit on the steep side at £133,i need some soon and think i will stick to the £25 brembos and do without the sporty look.

Lawrie, you know drilled and grooved discs can sometimes make a whirring 'ffvvvvvvvvve' noise on braking? I mention it as it might bug me if it was happening on my car. I spose the sound comes with the disc's drilled holes and grooves pressing on the pads. My mountain bike does it with its discs even though the pads and discs are perfectly aligned.

I think if I was doing the TT 312mm brake conversion I'd stick with great quality standard 312 discs and have either Ferodo DS Performance or DS 2500 pads...along with stainless (Goodridge or Hel) braided brake lines and upgraded brake fluid. I don't think I'd bother with the drilled/grooved discs. But, in the end everyone's different so that's a good thing eh.

Yeah if I did the upgrade I would stick with plain discs and definitely uprate the lines and fluid, noises and stuff dont really bother me, usually got the music on drowning it out anyway :D nee to invest in some new tyres etc as well as I'm on budgets on the front and they are just aweful!!

Alternatively,I just (finally) swapped the ditch finders on the front of my TDI for Hankook K110s - already quite impressed...
