Hey guys,

i havent posted on here for a while as i havent been driving my car much but when i went to move it earlier this week i noticed i have a leak!

from under the engine area on the drivers side!

My first thought was power steering but there was a light on dash and its on the drivers side!

it does pump out fluid or oil when i leave it running!

any ideas?????

Could be an aircon leak. the dye the put in to check for leaks is green. maybe you have sprung a leak?

Agreed.

Have a look under the bonnet and follow the silver pipes from the A/C radiator at the front.

I have a small ammount drip off mine a while ago from the filling point near the front from when it was last filled/tested.

If it is leaking it might be worth having it checked out. Could just be a loose connection/joint.

The only other fluid that is green is the power steering fluid. Check round the gaitors on the steering rack for leaks.

Spray some screen wash out into a cup and see if it looks the same. If not it will probably be power steering fluid as the brake fluid isn't normally green.

On a MK4 the power steering fluid goes into the bottle under your battery with a green lid, the pump is down from there sort of behind the passenger fog light and then the pipes will go to the steering rack and that will stretch between the 2 front wheels and have black plastic squeeze box thingys on it at each end.

Sorry for the silly description if you know what a steering rack looks like :D

Just a thought, but how thick is the oily substance? The only thing I can think of is gearbox oil. A few years back (10 or so) the gearbox oil I used in my Ford Escort was a bright green colour (we called it snot!). Could it be the gearbox leaking? How does it feel to change gear?

I would go for air con. Could get the system checked at a garage and they will know if its holding pressure or not when they attempt to re gas it or if they pressure test it

Wont have worked cause there will be no gas left due to your leak, and whats leaking out is the dye thats left in the system!
I had a quick connector pop off on mine, it was down beside the alternator and the pipe was attached to the rad and was a U bend
