Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced insurance company for a Mk1 Leon Cupra 1.8T?

I know us girls insurance has gone up to be more in line with the male of the species but some of the quotes I am getting back are ridiculous compared to what I was getting on my Golf Mk3 2.0 GTi

Mine is through Admiral..

£800 per year fully comp
27 year old male (me) and the wife!
No Mods
3 years NCB
No points
No Accidents
Highish crime rating postcode!

The insurance compared to a MK3 golf (GTi or otherwise) will always be allot more on the Cupra!

I appreciate it might be slightly more (although not understanding why, they aren't that dissimilar in power and I have gained another years NCB) but I am getting a lot higher and some of the quotes seem ridiculous and have an extremely high excess

Insurance is based on lots of things, most of them are witchcraft and voodoo from what I can gather.
I would argue with you on the power front... But some other reasons

Cost of repairs would be higher on the Leon
Age is a big factor, I don't know how old you are but adding someone older as a named driver will always lower the premium.
Insurance group on the Cupra is allot higher from memory.
Have you moved recently?
Points?
Accidents?
Value of the Leon will be higher as well

Have you tried the usual comparison sites like Go Compare, Compare the market etc?

Adrian Flux used to do good deals as well although i am not sure about that some much these days!

Agree with you on the witchcraft and voodoo :D and run by extremely unhelpful people on the rare times you actually need something from them

Power - 148bhp Mk3 16v 177bhp Leon Cupra 1.8T (factory quoted - my Mk3 had 153bhp)
Power:weight ratio - 133 Mk3 16v 135bhp
Obviously the torque is a lot higher in the Leon

Nothing has changed in my details other then the car and I have gained another years NCB (and got another year older - I am 29). I appreciate the value of the car going up with make a difference - value of car has over doubled :)

Only have a brief look at the moment to brace myself for when renewal date is due - cheapest quote so far is Shelia's Wheels (from compare the market)

Thats the thing, lots of little differences all add up to one big price difference by the end, also worth bearing in mind that car insurance has once again gone up on average of around 12% IIRC!

I know - damn the men who moaned that us women got cheaper car insurance:p

Brentacre are worth a go, cheapest ive been quoted by over half. Paid £580 for myn fully comp on a modified policy. You insure upto a certian power. for example im insured to 280bhp. I can add anything i like to my car for free as long as i dont go above 280bhp, if i do I just pay a bit more. Also they allow you to keep your NCB on another vehicle like ove done, they just mirror your NCB onto the new car but you dont have to transfer them over.
