Following a recent brawl I had with the insurance apes:...

Does anybody know/remember their pre and post modification insurance quotes?

I was looking at 100 more for adding ProLines and 100 for adding a P-flo intake.

on top of the 675 already paid...

I've been getting quotes for modified vs standard and standard I can get £450 a year, modified starts at £650 (remap, panel filter/exhaust and some small body mods). This is for a CR170 FR+

Brentacre quoted me £640 up to 220bhp.

I went from 360 to 600 when I had my remap done, but that's with the missus as a named driver. They classify remaps into categories depending on the extra %age of horsepower it gives the car; mine was in the top category hence the hike.

That thar car is NICE! Kudos on the full-black.
Well worth the 600 a year eh?

But still 240 up given a big remap is still quite doable.

I still think 200 up on mine just for a PFlo and Prolines is a bit much.
Still 6 months to go till renewal though

Haha thanks, it looks the mutt's nuts when it's clean, but being black it hardly ever stays that way for long...!

Yeah it seems a little steep for what you're having done, although I will say the insurance game is a lottery nowadays. There are so many variables that affect your premium (age/no-claims/postcode/experience/whereit's kept at night etc etc) that it's really hard to compare one policy to another.

One thing I will recommend though is to search online for modified car insurers, there are some very competitive mod-friendly quotes to be had- that's how I found the company I'm with now and they're pretty flexible :D

I'm sure mine is only ~£50 more than it was prior to Stage 2+, but then I am older than most on here and my other half is a nmaed driver too.

Is that 50 more for the St2+ remap? Or 50 more for the whole St2+ kit and remap?

In any case...well done!...

I've had loads of quotes in the past 3 months as thinking of swapping my daily driver(laguna) for something a bit more fun.The quotes I have got have more or less stayed the same for standard cars at around £400-450 for a golf gti/cupra/octavia vrs/cooper s/renaultsport megane but the loading for mods has varied a lot.I've had quotes with as little as £15 extra for a remap in december, but my most recent ones have added £100-150.This is for an old git, own home, kid etc-I can even insure an M3 for £800 so £600 for a chipped golf seems a bit daft.
I also have a gtir which is about as modified as you can get, literally everything on it is different to standard and that comes in at £840 or something but that includes track day cover and an agreed value of £12k.

I used brentacre. They are a broker specialising in modified cars and performance cars
I pay 685 for my cupra and was quoted 120 a year more to remap up to 300bhp.
The good thing about these guys is that you can do any other mods including wheels, induction kit, exhaust and lowering will not increase the premium. Just notify them as they will replace the modified part.

Only the remap will put up the premium .

My renewal was 1200 quid so massive savings plus bonus like key cover legal cover courtesy car.

And they answer the phone no automated service .

when i had my corsa it was additional 10% per mod.

quote i had for a remap cover (never got it done in the end) was an addition £85ish iirc and my insurance was under £700 so its over 10% increase for the map.

I like the sound of this Brentacre place.
I understand that modifications may result in a less reliable and more steal-worthy car, but every insurance should have a good and fair policy on modifications with varying degrees of flexibility.

On a less good note. Insurance got back to me (Allianz underwriter) and they accept NO modifications.

That's me done then.

On a lighter note. The email says :
"I can confirm we have received you email and unfortunately the underwriter that you are with, Allianz, do not accept any type of modifications. Therefore we would not cover you with any suspension and an air intake."

So....does that mean I have to remove my stock suspension and air intake? :) hehehe
As they say they won't cover me with ANY suspension and air intake

Never heard of them. Added to my list of ones to look at in 6 months time.

- Aviva (look at foreign driving years)
- Adrian Flux (specialist in "performance" cars
- Greenlight ...

my insurance is already high and went up 25% with the exhaust/valance/other bits declared :( they wont even consider suspension mods

need to look into these specialist insurers - although adrian flux and chris knott wouldnt even give me a quote let alone a minute of their time, claim you have to be 25+ to drive a 'powerful car like a cupra'

Wasn't sure if they were on here (Greenlight i mean) already, so thought it may be worth mentioning just incase!

I know from my days on XPF (more-so than my time with my CTR) that there were several folks who went with Greenlight after i started recommending them/ banding there name about ( i beleive i was the 1st person on that particular forum to use them) and as i recall they were all just as happy with them as me!

Ok they won't suit everyone, but like i say in the last 5yrs they've consitently given me the best level of cover/low Excess etc - for the best price!
