Hey guys,

Front brakes are starting to make a horrible noise, and it looks like it is time for some new discs and pads. Looking around there are a lot of options.

Does anyone have any experience of Mintex pads and discs? Considering buying this kit:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEON-1-8-...CarParts_SM&hash=item231483f2e8#ht_525wt_1163

As far as I can tell, they are the right size for my car? (Mk1 03 Leon Cupra 1.8t 180hp)

Any help or advice much appreciated

Tom

Hi Tom,

Mintex are regarding as cheap and cheerful. They will do the job better than most other cheap pads, and if you're on a very tight budget then they're one of your top options, but personally I would spend a bit more on some DS2000 (DS Performance) or DS2500 pads, as they stop much better and safety's important.

Hi Jamie,

Drilled discs have been known to crack (Badger5 is the brake expert on here, and he said this was true, after extensive testing), so I would be aware of that and not give them too much abuse.

The grooves will eat your pads away, and not give you any benefit either.

Those disks aren’t drilled as such, more like counter sunk, I've got them on my LCR (on it when i bought it).

Mine appear to be fine with no cracks as yet.

Altough i need new pads, going to buy the offical brembo ones off of ebay

Cheers for the responses guys.

I am on a pretty tight budget at the moment (insurance due this month amongst other things) so Mintex may well be the way I go.

Will my discs definitely be 312mm? There are so many different variations out there that also come up sometimes when I enter my car details... why cause such confusion?!

Later cupra's, I think from the facelift have the 312mm front discs. But best to check before ordering ;)

AUQ Cupra's have 312mm ... my pre-facelift has them as standard.

I run CRN brake disks ... not overly impressed with them - noisy as hell (grooved) and rust badly... I'm swapping to PAGID next from ECP.

Pads - EBC Red versions 2's... awesome! :)

Fingers crossed they are 312mm then! I will try to do a rough measurement tonight, but by the sounds of it, they almost certainly are going to be that size.

Thanks guys.

Any more options guys? I'm in same boat now. Had trouble with warped discs every two years - sticky calipre? god knows but I need a quick fix before MOT next month

Need: front discs and pads

Think mine are mintex already - not good under pressured breaking but they do stop when required (thankfully!), however they're not the best - prob same if not slightly better than OEM i'd imagine

I've just ordered mine - went for Pagid discs and pads from Eurocar Parts as they have got 25% off all brakes at the moment, making them a great price. I know Pagid supply brakes for various manufacturers, so fingers crossed they are good for the Leon. At the end of the day, I can't see them being terrible!

Hi merv, what was your feedback on the Delphi pads in the end? Are they are good?

That's what I was going to get but the garage has recommended delphi's. They fit them them to performance audi's, apparently. Don't want anything too expensive as I've gone through 3 sets of brembos in a year, they keep warping after about 800 miles (and no it's not my driving lol) and I can't find out why.

They've been good mate, fronts are quiet, but rears have just started making a bit of noise when light breaking.
