Some advice on possible oil leak

I have a 60 plate 2.0 tdi pd 140. I bought it last september when it was almost exactly a year old.

I was topping up the screen wash last weekend and notices some oil around the top of what I think is the EGR valve where it connects to the manifold (I think!). It's not alot, quite literally a few spots at most.

Sorry about the description. I previously had a 56 plate pd 140 and it required the Intake Motor Flap replaced so and doing my best to remember the names of each of the parts.

I normally use a local independent garage but am happy to take it do a dealer if required.

Any thoughts or advice?

I'd clean it off, have a good look around and see if anything is obvious, if not, then take it for a gentle run and see if any more spots appear.

I should have mentioned that I did exactly that this morning. I used some wd40 on a rag to clean any obvious signs of oily dirt drove for about 10 miles or so and its re-appeared.

It is quite literally a spot or two, the car isn't using any amount of oil to speak of.

In that case I'd whip it back to a dealer or your local garage and get them to check it out. Does it look like it's oil that's dripped or sprayed out/up?

It's very possible that it is coming from somewhere else given that its so little.

I know the mechanic at my local garage well enough that I can pop in and ask for 5 minutes of his time. I did this on Friday and he said that it could equally be coming from an oil filter that wasn't put on properly but couldn't be sure without spending more time looking.

I decided to clean up what I could and investigate a bit.

He's good from the point of view that he'll look at it for free and recommend that I take it to a dealer if its likely to be a warranty repair.

He seemed quite happy to wait for another couple of thousand miles until it needs servicing before making a decision.

At least you've got a decent local mechanic that you can trust to sort you out. Hopefully it's something simple and easy to rectify.
