Leon fr cr+ diesel

Hi all,
I've ran my FR+ company car since Jan 16th and log all my fuel due to using a fuel card.
It's sitting on 12700 miles and was registered 21 Oct 2011 on a 61.

Most of my driving is on the Motorway;
Febs figures - 2833 miles averaging 42.32 mpg
March figures - 2738 miles averaging 41.98 mpg

These are real actual figures not the trip computer figures.

I need to hit 15p a mile to not lose money and stay within the guidelines SO I'm not thrashing it all over the place, most of the time I sit in 6th at 2000 revs which is 66 mph.

BTW the trip is miles out, today I travelled from Derby to Exeter and back, my trip said 54.8mpg and my actual was 42.84mpg, I'm amazed the trip is so bad.

What do you think?
Is around 42mpg acceptable?
Will it get better when I've got more miles under my belt?
I have read 5th is better than 6th, which sounds a bit mad but I'm going to try that tomorrow on my trip to Gloucester.

In my PD170 5th was at least as good as 6th, if not better when doing 65/70.

Sat at 70 I normally see mid to high 40s, I've used a fuel app to compare with the trip computer and found it to be pretty accurate maybe reading 1-2mpg above calculated values.

Well you can see my figures, 42mpg or near as damn it, I use an app and my Trip is around 8mpg out and as much as 12 mpg which is bonkers.

My FR+ shows an average for all of the 12k i've driven of 51mpg. Saying that I regularly do a 50 mile round trip at below 50mph and get 60+ mpg

I drove to London and back today if you are doing around 60 then 5th is definitely better than 6th basically I think in if you are doing under 2k revs the engine labours a little

No I'm not doing around 60mph, I'm doing 66mph at 2000 revs in 6th, the engine is not labouring at all.

I did drive to Gloucester from Derby yesterday, 5th at 2500 revs reading 69mph on the way and averaged on the stupid computer 53.8mpg, on the return trip I used 6th, which again for the cheap seats is 66mph at 2000 revs and averaged 58.5mpg so the 5th gear nonsense is nonsense.

So 42 mpg it seems to be then, o well, my colleague in a very ugly Pug 508 gets a real 53mpg doing the same job in a different area, next time I'll choose something else.

I work for a holding company for a large car dealership and I had a good look round the DS5 today, that looks amazing but that's for a different forum I guess.

Have you tried doing below 50 mph on the Motorway, you will die, lol.

I live in Suffolk and we don't have motorways. The 50 mile round trip is through lots of 30 and 40 mph zones - I change gear when the car tells me to and get 60mpg. I've found the thing that kills my fuel consumption is round abouts - around Milton Keynes is a nightmare.

Im not being funny, but 40+ mpg is still good for a car that is 170bhp. I too claim back my company fuel. Ive worked it out that it costs roughly 14p per mile to drive so you should be covered for your costs...

Ive just hit 20k (car regestered may 11) and on the average trip readout i always hit between 47.5 and 48mpg before it resets again.

How many miles are you seeing from a full tank?

If you use supermarket fuel, Have you tried using some millers? http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_370465_langId_-1_categoryId_255221

Fair play.

It's just my colleague with 163bhp gets 55mpg ish, darn annoying, my friend has a 330d and he gets 44mpg actual.

My cost per mile on 6536 miles is 15.3 pence so not too bad.

best mileage is 520 miles on 51.76 litres.

Thanks for the advice concerning the Millers.

Gents,

I've never looked at Millers to be honest, but I was under the impression it was mostly for use with old diesel cars?

Anyone any info on it for me? #MillersNewbie

Thanks :)

Well due to fuel prices and various reward systems i use supermarket fuel. (going on the trip computer) When i use millers i will regularly get over 50mpg on my commute (25miles each way mainly b roads) without it i see around 45mpg. The car doesn't feel any more powerful but the engine seems to feel smoother....

I do like it, but not sure how effective it would be using a premium fuel.

And when you say they are real actual figures, how have you worked them out??

Would have thought the trip computer would be fairly accurate

Thanks a lot, for the price of it, I might give it a go!

I'll fill a full tank and see what consumption I get to empty, then do the same with Millers and compare.

Have you done the simple things like check the air filter is clean and the tyres are inflated correctly ? If it's the cr version you should be able to crack 50mpg. Do you use supermarket fuel or shell/bp etc ? I had a passat estate, it was the 140ps version but I managed 69.9 mpg out of it :)

with a calculator, the Road Trip app and receipts.

best so far is 520 miles on 51.76litres = 45.67 mpg.
Average over 6536 miles is 42.21 mpg 90% Motorway
My Computer is not accurate at all.

I'm not. I've had 4 VAG cars w/ trip computers. One was accurate to within 2%. Another was out by 20%. However, I wouldn't compare the trip against filling up on a single journey; I find some pumps can 'click' to a halt at different points in the neck of the tank, leading to more or less fuel being delivered than on the previous fill and throwing the MPG calc out. I average mine out over at least three fills.
Is around 42mpg acceptable?
42mpg is comparable to what I get when taking into account that my trip meter is optimistic by about 2-3% (see my sig below for mostly urban MPG).
Will it get better when I've got more miles under my belt?
Yes. My mileages have all improved between 10,000 - 20,000 miles.
