Hi all i have an 04 ibiza cupra tdi

planning on doing a oil change in the next few months and have decided to change the awful clown horn while i am under the car (one tone horn)

Just after a cheapish replacement that is as said simply plug and play with no cutting of the wires etc

What horns will fit straight in

Please no stupid suggestions e.g klaxon or air horns etc

Just after a normal every day sounding horn like the ibiza should have had in the first place

thanks :D

Ah ok, is there no way of buying just 1 horn that wont sound **** ? that will simply plug straight in ?

or does it have to be a 2 tone horn in the form of 2 seprate horns ?

want this to be a very simple procedure if possible

sorry for all the questions, and thanks for your help :)

I dont think you can. The current horn is only a single high tone, so no power supply for a low tone. If you could buy a VAG connector then you could just splice the original wire, without cutting the connector, and plug the 2nd connector into a low tone horn from a golf for example.

Have a look around a local scrappy!

Or you could go for the Stebel Nautilus, sounds like an elephant on heat though http://www.stebel.it/stebel2009/products.asp?IDserie=4&uso=1&tipologia=auto

OR go all out and get this http://www.stebel.it/stebel2009/products.asp?IDserie=11&uso=1&tipologia=nautica

and do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5szCF-1o00

I bought a cheapie eBay twin tone, both fit fine on the standard bracket and just needed to splice into the wires on the plug. Really doesn't take long

Wouldn't say it was anywhere near as loud as they describe but a better sound for sure

I have fitted the eBay twin tone to my cupra. You will need to wire in a relay if you are increasing the duty of the horn. Most people don't seem to bother but you do risk at worst welding the horn button together!

Zach225 - any links to the horns you purchased ?

what does "splice" mean ? cutting one wire into two seprate wires

Hate doing that sort of stuff as im not very good at it, worried i will do more harm than good

I don't mate but it's the same as the "type-r" one already posted here

Yes spliced is basically tapping into the existing wires

I didn't cut anything, used the soldering iron to melt off some of the plastic coating on the standard wires then soldered onto them with the new ones.

Still leaves the plug on then should I want to go back.

Shouldn't need a resister as its still a 12v draw (I think)

Is there just a better sounding single tone? I think that was what the OP was after and me also, just wondered if anyone was aware of any vehicles that have a more manly single tone?!

Cheers,

I fitted the type r horn listed earlier in the thread. I can confirm that it does need a relay wiring in. It really is a piece of cake and there is no point cutting corners.

Jimski has hit the nail on the head

Dont want any splicing or messing with wires "at all"

Could i not just change the high pitch tone horn with say a low pitch tone horn from of say a mk4 golf or alhambra ?

does not have to sound prefect just not a bloody quiet clown horn which no one can here \ laugh at when they do

yeah I need to change mine, it's just too embarrassing to use...
sounds like a scooter horn
How many terminals does the OEM one have, 1 or 2?
I don't mind some splicing but can't be arsed messing about with relays and stuff
