Loss of Acceleration

Hi
I have a Seat Leon FR TDi 2010 and today when I was driving home today and when i put my foot down to accelerate up a hill. There was no power from my engine. It was completely flat. There was no Poping sound and there are no obvious splits in the intercooler hoses and the turbo sounds fine. There is also no Engine management light on the dash and when i used Vag-com to check for fault codes there were none found. Any Ideas? the quickest i can get booked into the dealership is next wednesday and its 43 miles away!!

Do all the lights on the dash definatly work? The fact vag com didn't log anything is odd, are you able to replicate the problem?

If the boost pipe popped off you would know, you'd be pluming black smoke out. MAF sensor may not be working 100%, if you can replicate the problem try disconnecting it and then go out and try replicate it again

Removed the MAF its clean and there is no change. Not even smoke. I noticed that with the car parked in neutral the revs wont go past 2500. But when moving if i dip the clutch it will rev right up to 4000. I can't think of anything else it can be

You're in limp mode.
You need to plug the car into a vag.com or similar and get the error code. I suspect it may be "Turbo Overboosting". Then clear the fault. If it is this fault, it could be a number of things.
Most likely a faulty or erratic sensor. The fault might not even come back.

Alternatively it could be a dirty turbo, needing a strip down and clean, or a faulty turbo or frankly a few other things - im not a mechanic so i'm not certain. If there's no excess smoke out of the exhausts then its probably not the turbo. Fingers crossed.

Either way, get it to a vag.com or a computer that can read the fault. Call SEAT and see if they can plug it in for free. Be warned, they'll be quick to tell you your turbo needs a rebuild or something, so if they do i'd get a second opinion.

My local SEAT dealership are rude and expensive and wanted £95 to plug the computer in (5 minute job!) - Bristol Blade SEAT so I called up SEAT Congressbury who plugged my old car in for free and were really nice. So if your local wants to charge, call around or see if someone on here has VCDS

Try this remove engine cover and at back of engine on top of turbo you will see a round unit with an electrical connector on top and on the right side low down a vacume pipe remove pipe fit a nother bit of pipe and suck on it if you get resistance vac unit ok if you suck for ever its shot .this controls turbo so no power if not working and the unit can be replaced on its own

Well whatever it is im gonna have to wait til monday when i get it to the dealers. Its only done 20000 miles and i give it the beans on a regular basis. Thank you for your replies!

I would be surprised if they're clogged up then at that mileage. Have you tdi's before this one?

Ive had a few. Its the first time ive had onego into limp mode

Right well I think I've got to the bottom of what happened on mine (fingers crossed). Went into limp

Hopefully got to the bottom of mine (fingers crossed). After a week of the guy resetting the fault I noticed a bit of juddering, some flat spots and a hissing when I accelerated. Took it to the garage today and the clip holding the hose to the intercooler had broken. They replaced it and seems ok now.
Charged me £60 though, £30 diagnostics and £30 labour.

This is the correct solution,it wont be the vanes,the vacuum capsule will not be holding vacuum,it will induce a fault but it takes a while .as silver surfer says there is a repair kit.

Well it decided to come out of limp mode when i took it to the dealers! been there for a couple of days and they say they cant find a fault and have contacted SEAT UK for help and have yet to hear back off them.
They also told me that their diagnostic equipment could not communicate properley with some modules in the car. If they are stuck what hope have I got if they can't fix it.

Had this with a tfsi sport. Turned out to be a throttle pedal assembly sticking

when the DPF heats up and coupled with a few missed regen opportunities the car will lose power untill the engine has cooled down.
what type of driving do you do??
motorway or town/school/supermarket sweep trips?
DPF faults dont usually bring up engine management lights.
the dealers must have mentioned DPF issues to you.
if not, mention it to them.
when the engine has cooled down you can do a forced regen
or just let the dealers do it under warrantee.
