Help!!!!!!!!! My car is screwed!

I was driving along earlier today at about 80, when all the dials just froze, and the lights behind them turned on without having set them to actually turn on.
So I pulled over to try and find out what was wrong and took the key out of the ignition but the car wouldn't start again. I looked at all the fuses, but none were blown, so I rung up Seat and they had never heard of it before and suggested reconnecting the battery. I did that and the car started, however the dials all froze again and when i took the key out of the ignition it wouldnt start. I eventually rung the AA and they didn't have a clue, but they searched for any engine management and couldnt find any, and then they checked all the battery earth points, which were fine. The strangest thing was that even with the battery disconnected, the dials still stayed in the same place (I thoght they were electronic). Eventually I had to get towed home on the back of truck from Exeter to London.
The dealers are saying it will be 2 WEEKS until they can even look at it! I only bought the car 1.5 months ago so do you think the company I bought it off will pay to get it repaired?
Does anyone have ANY idea as to what it could be or what I could try to fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Oli

YOU DEFINATLY have the right to take the car back to the dealer you bought it fromto get either some help with the payments for repairs or for it to be repaired completly!

when the dials flicker and the lights gofunny normally its a dying battery so alternator but sounds like an ecu-electronic fault:shrug: but to be honest ive never heard of this problem occuring before

my dials froze on mine once and only once, but the battery was 15ft away lol and i don't think sudden impacts helped matters . your prob does sound very wrong but hopefully it's something simple like Dario's prob

Hi everyone, sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm having this exact same problem with my PD130 Ibiza. Clocks freeze, with no effect on engine or anything else. Switch engine off and try to start it again, it will only run for one second before dying. Only way to fix it is by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds or unplugging the black power plug from the back of the clocks and reconnecting after a couple of seconds.

I've tried re-soldering the pins on the back of the clocks, as seems to be the common fix to dodgy dials on here, but with no luck.

I've had a look at the wires into the back of my fuse box, as in Dario's suggestion above, but all seems OK there. Just wondered if anyone has managed to fix this problem or has any help or tips they can offer. All replies gratefully received, it's driving me mad now!

Thanks
Mark

Right, so just to update everyone. Gave up on mine in the end and sent it to the Stealers. They said it needed a new dash cluster fitted and that it would cost £506. Went to pick it up today and put a massive hole in my wallet, only to find afterwards that they've fitted a four clock dash!

I'm very annoyed at this as I know the 6 clock helps set the PD130 model apart. The service assistant said there was nothing he could do until morning when everyone was back in. I guess they don't actually make the six clock dash anymore, but I'm really annoyed that I wasn't told about this before being charged. Anyone, where do I stand with this? All advice much appreciated.

The 6 clock dash clusters are known for failing which is why any model after the older 130 sport did not come with it.
Be glad you have the newer one i would say :)

Voltage and oil temp gauge.

My 6 dial is starting to play up too. The fuel gauge and temp gauge randomly stop working. Plus the outside temp reading goes blank with two dashes.

I'd go for a 4 dial when i replace mine.

I'm going to be ridding of my 6 dial soon. It's been hard having a fuel gauge that barely works !

Shame is having an oil temp gauge is handy so you know when your engine is fully warmed up so you can give it a thrashing lol.
