So then, does your Cupra burn oil like its free????

I'm looking at buying one but getting put off at the momant by the horror stories of going through oil like it's free, i asked the dealer about this issue but he said he hadn't heard of one single issue regarding burning oil so thought i'd put the feelers out.

Have a 2011 Boc ... No problems. Had a 2009 Boc ... Used a little more oil than I would have liked, but it wasn't a major problem (i.e. Not massively excessive)

You should add a "it has but now its fixed/settled down" to the thread

Mine used a few L in the 8k ive done(well within guidelines), but not used any in the last 2/3k no matter how hard its driven.

I think it was just bedding in as it was almost brand new.

Others have had parts replaced that have cured the issue.

I said yes. But it isnt really that bad. When I had my type r, that used to use more than the cupra. I am happy with it:)

How much research can someone do before buying a car? :D

Yes they can burn oil, yes dealer should fix it under warranty.

Mine went into the dealers about my oil consumption...seat haven't released a fix to solve the oil consumption yet for 2011+ engines so all they can do for me is to top it up everytime the light comes on until they find a fix...I'm not complaining because I get oil for free but I would like it so I don't have to worry about it anymore!

You need to say what level of consumption you judge to be "burning oil."

Surely without that the poll has no meaning since one person's burning oil is another person's normal consumption.

To be honest that's horrendous, the oil light coming on on a 2010+ car with X amount of mileage is discusting, most cars nowadays are turbo charged but you don't hear of corsa vxr's getting new engines under warranty because they sup a litre of oil to a full tank of juice, I know SEAT state that it will use oil and iirc 626 miles for half a litre of oil but surely this must be maximum consumption driven under maximum conditions?

As for the amount of research that can be done... Well, at 13 grand which is a lot of money to us and should be to anyone in this day and age, we will only get 1 years warranty with the car and will probably only cover between 3 and 6k so what happens in the 2nd year after it's 20k on and uses excesive oil, down river without a paddle comes to my mind.

Yes 1lr every 700 miles or so + i got blue smoke coming out of the exhaust after the engine has sat still for a few days on the first few revs. Going to the dealer for a oil consuption test after 600 miles.

2010 cupra by the way 23,000 (ish) miles

*edit never had a misfire yet (****touchwood****)

I had my FR for 2.5years now didn't have oil consumption issues but I just booked it in for 1000miles oil consumption test at my local garage because they were concerned about it. Will report back what they say next week.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I may just bite the bullet and sign on the dotted line and keep checking that dip stick and first signs of excessive consumption start kicking off... Really liked the car, really really!!!

If the Type R was worse then surely you should of put No not yes Adam :p ?

This ^^^

Get one. You wont find a faster car for the same running/insurance/tax costs. You will still piss over VXR's and Type R's as well as Focus ST's and some other big boys :drive1:

Check out my link below for a stage 1 remap drag strip run and look @ the other acceleration video I did in it on my youtube

It still manages to put a huge smile on my face when I flick the "-" paddle twice and boot it after cruising @ any speed! Flooring the throttle just annoys me on the other hand as it makes a load of noise and doesnt change down as quick. Best to put it in what you want and floor it at the same time.
