Cheers for help mate, but West midlands is a mission from me and ive decided to just bite the bullet and get a reconned gearbox fitted and clutch replacement at the same time which is costing a huge amount but its being done by specialists and comes with 2 year warranty so im just gunna do it, then its done and can finally start enjoying the car again!!

Total cost for full reconditioned box, new clutch kit and all fitting + VAT £1360 which i don't think is to bad considering that Seat wanted £2000 for a new gearbox i phoned up 3 other places and they all wanted about £1800 for the same work.

So shes booked in on monday to have it all done.

well mine went back in for the 3rd time the other week because its was making the same noise again but all the time not just backing off the throttle and it was 10x louder than before only did 400miles since the last time, and apparently its completely destroyed the gearbox so they've gotta find anouther.

does any one know if the gear ratios are the same in the standard cupra to cupra r?

my lcr so far has been the most unreliable car i've ever owned had it 3months and been able to drive it for 6 weeks of that:cry:

i still love it though and what would i replace it with a astra vxr:thumbd:

Oh mate I'm not sure about the gear ratios... but was just going to say your not alone trust me!

I've owned mine for about 3 months and after this have chucked 2 grand into it !! new discs pads allround, new key, had to get cambelt done even though it was stamped in the book cause the guy i bought it from was a twat and lied.. defo gunna loose all that when i do sell it but i love it to much to care.

After monday is over hopefully i can finally enjoy it the way it should of been in the beginning!!

Mine is same though 04 Black LCR --->> bad year maybe !! lol

By the way if your going to replace the gearbox it is worth doing the clutch at the same time if it hasnt already been replaced as you don't get charged labour for it since the gearbox is already out..

i think the black ones must be unlucky like black cats lol its had new dmf, clutch and slave cylinder the first time round so should be ok

it wouldn't be so bad if they did quicker than last time 7 weeks:cry: and they didn't give me a knackered t reg ka as a courtesy car:censored:

Oh my god 7 weeks!!! and they give you a KA to roll around in lol!! that is terrible... I wouldn't take it back there mate. The place im going to are going to have it done the same day thank god its called "Barrtech" but its in cambridge which im guesing is miles away from you.

Have you found a replacement gearbox or you going to buy a reconditioned one?

Lol make that three of us! When they do get to around 100k/8years old they need a few things replaced/reconditioned i.e clutch, gearbox, cambelt etc but the engines themselves are bullet proof! I had a MKIV 1.8 T GTi with 175k on the clock, and have seen a few over the 200k mark.

Once your issues are sorted, they are an absolute pleasure to drive so it will be well worth it :)

PS. If you guys are considering remaps, then get an uprated clutch if it's being done with the gearbox.

Oh boys im not having a good time with this at all!! Was supposed to get mine back today as it went in this morning but as i could of guess more problems!

They are saying my flywheel has a lot of play in it and some crank has cracked?? basically adding £560 to the bill!! so putting it a total of 2 grand well best part of!!! soooooo pissed off and i dont get it back till friday now.

Please tell me this will be worth it ! i know i won't get it back when i sell it but i haven't got any other option but to do it now.... i just really hope this is the last thing as ive had the car 3 months and spent 3 grand on it now practically rebuilt the ****ing thing!!

I hope that is the last of your troubles mate, on the plus side at least you know the parts you have replaced are going to last you through the years you have the car...

Once the car is on the road, check out the parts and labour warranties the AA and RAC have, they can save you money on any future repair bills. Just make sure you read the small print when you take them out though. It paid for a new slave cylinder and clutch for me, saving me about £350.

Update: Gearbox was stripped out and inspected, found the gearbox casing was worn. Basically the noise under deceleration was a bearing grinding against the casing. All the bearings are still in brilliant condition for a gearbox that's done 110k (looks like previously seller was telling the truth about motorway miles!) Casing was shimmed and everything put back together, for a total cost of £340.

hi my box is whining in 3rd and 4th worst when decelerating at 40 to 30 mph sound like the same problems as yours it spoils the drive for me:(

Yeah it is hugely annoying, but definitely worth resolving so that you can properly enjoy driving her. It's not a major problem but due to the labour involved it is a costly repair unfortunately. At least you can have the rest of the gearbox inspected at the same time to ensure everything else in good nick...

Can I put a gearbox from a cupra in my cupra r

Yes: well, they both use 02M six-speed boxes, and the AUQ and BAM engined cars were both produced with FML and FZQ boxes. However the Cupra had a lot more boxes during its life.

Looking for this I note with interest that the Seat docs say that the six-speed box uses magnesium case castings. No smoking, then

Seems like its very common in the 04 lcr's !

Mines just had another gearbox put in thank God under warranty!!

Heard a knocking noise... Stabilizer bar had broke and there was a crack in gearbox casing
Not happy at all after spending 2 grand having it done a few months back!

Don't seem to have much luck with her really, however everytime I put my foot down I remember
Why I bought it and God lcr's look fit! Deffo worth the money.

Hi guys im new on here but thought id let out my wow's ... ive got a black 04 lcr and shock of shocks same problem. Have a grinding noise when coming off the go pedal.. annoying indeed esp as ive only done 1k since i brought it. Taken it to my specialists Stealth Racing in Southam and booked in for new bearings..however once out it turns out the casing was fook'ed too! all in all £450 with the bearings thats not including Labour! Ouch :( the preggers mrs is not happy "/
Changing the clutch and flywheel as lets be honest you may aswell esp when its done 98k and the gear box is out. My only silver lining is that im having a 3"tip and a remap done too so with all my other mods ( Miltec turbo back 3" exhaust, forge dv007 , forge fmit, bmc induction kit) i should see close to 300bhp... not enough to justify the 2k im spending for the mrs , however plenty of justification my end haha cars gotta love em!!
