Im looking to poss get a Exeo in the next few month, got between 11 and 15k to spend, but would liek a bit of advice what is worth getting or avoiding?

I used to have a B7 A4 Sline 2.0TDi 140 that was ace, loved it it to bits, and we need another 5 door estate now so it was either get a high priced late model B7, a B8 with a million miles that I cant fit a towbar to (due to needing £2k for the trailer prep and towbar!) or look at a Seat Exeo.

went to the local dealer today and they were more than happy to help! (the guy in Audi wouldnt give the time of day as im only 26! thought straight away I can't afford it and i was wasting his time..so Audi Derby can shove it! - My dad got the same treatment when he was looking for his B8 Sline black ed..£25k+ cash sale and the Derby lot wouldn't give him a second look!)

Went out in a 2012 143, with DSG - as I really want a 2011 on car for the LED rear lights, and the better economy / lower tax - and it was not impressed! the ride was as I remember, the seats were OK, not as many adjustments as my old B7, but enough suport in the sport model, but what did leave me wanting more was the engine, it was as flat as anything! Im used to a 9n3 Polo TDi 1.9 tdi running 130bhp, or a mk4 estate sport with 170, however I did drive my dads B8 the other day with a 136 TDie engine and that was nippy enough, not lighting, but more than enough..

now not sure if its the DSG but I was in manual model and giving it death but seemed very sedate! We then went in a Leon FR with 170, which is only 0.5 sec quicker to 60 than the exeo and that was more what I wanted! able to pootle all day, but power when needed to overtake something safely.

My only concern is what MPG are folks getting in the real world with a 170 ST? I generally drive like a old man, shifting before 2k etc, and my route to work is 10 miles of 30 - 40mph roads as I leave town, a couple of miles of 60mph as I hit the dual carriage way, then 10-15 miles at 70mph, then another 10 at between 40 and 60 on the A roads to works front door. In both my mk4 and my wifes Polo I get min 52mpg avg for the week, so if I can get close to that Ill be happy.

Also are there any probs to looks out for? I really like the looks of a 170 sport with tech pack from 2011 on, but I am worried the value of it will fall through the floor in 3 years, so do I get a earlier one and save a few quid now?

any other advice would be apprecaited too,

cheers

I've a 170 saloon, that averages 45mpg, you'll get over 50mpg average, but you'll need to be very cautious, not sure if that helps you. Only problems you'll experience, in my opinion, are the dealers. They might be all smiles whilst you're buying, but aren't interested once you've signed.

I agree with all this :)

I drive a "bit like a grandad" and get 50-52mpg almost all the time, this is at 50-60mph:)

The dealers leave a lot to be desired, especially were I live.. the first dealer I used in 2001 was Trentons in Hull, there were fantastic! I purchased 3 cars off them, always looked after you during the sale, and looked after you after you had purchased the car... nothing was too much trouble..

I always remember when I had the Leon Cupra they had to remove the bumper to do the repair, on the 2003 mod it had the big bumpers with two blanking plates over the bolts... they came to me and said "sorry we have cracked one of the blanking plugs, so we have ordered a replacement, will get it painted then let you know when it comes in so we can fit it" when I went outside and looked, they had glued it and put it back in, but you could not even tell unless you looked close, so if they had said nothing, which some would have done, I would never have known..

I also had my windows tinted back in the day's, at company not far from Trenton's.. the Leon was in for service at the time, so, as usual I had a courtesy car from them... the windows were due to be done the day after, so I asked if they did a hire car service.. the reply I got was... "keep our car, we will drop the car off for you at the company, collect it when it is done then you can drop our car back"... no charge!

That is why I kept using them.. first class CUSTOMER CARE... alway had a "thank you for your business" no matter how much the bill was!

But bad news for me was they gave it up about 2 1/2 years ago, I was gutted!

So I had to go to another dealer when I purchased the Exeo... this is were I agree with the comment above... It is a sad state of affairs when a dealer states " it is embarrassing when a customer knows more than we do"!!!!!!!!!!!

The other dealer never returns answers from emails!

I borrowed a 12 plate ST from the dealer last night for 24 hours, very impressed! seats were nice, engine was nice and smooth, didn't seem overly quick but it when you looked at the speedo it would gather pace swiftly!

fuel econo was pretty good too, if i was pressing on it was mid 40s, but driving normally to work I was into the low 50s, and coming back the 6 miles from my folks last night through town I was into the high 50s!

that impressed I maybe getting one this weekend (I also liked the HID headlights, very cool the way they swivle at night when cornering)

Don't buy new, I made that mistake and lost a lot. There are some good deals on s/h low mileage cars around - take the sport tech ones they are well equip. And once you'v purchased it the dealer will say they are hard to sell s/h etc. etc.

I took the plunge yesterday and put a deposit down on a car, white 170 sport tech ST, complete with factory fit detachable towbar, it's 3 months old, face lifted model direct from seat fleet management, with 7000 miles on the clock. Saved about 7k or so off book price so very happy!

Good work. 3 months old, 7k - that'll be mostly motorways then. Mine is 14k, almost 6 months old...

Get some pics up when you get it, I've only ever seen one facelift and that was going the other way to me.

I'll be getting a facelift in October (a new Exeo, not my actual face that is).

This is the one I borrowed off the dealer

2562df28.jpg

That had 7500 miles on, it was their own demo /pool car, it's up on seats used site for 19990 with 4500 miles on it, but being a pool car it's been abused a bit... Both passenger side wheels are curbed, the cup holder in the front is broke, it's been smoked it -there the remains of ash in the ash tray and on the passenger leather... - the boot floors all scratched, plus other niggles, and all he would drop £200! But then he did sort me this other for over a grand less and promises it will be mint, no curbed wheels or broken trim etc,

I have seen a few exeos on the road, only a few! And no facelift ones.

Already got a few mods in mind, starting with the cup holder and switch blanks! Why did they use the B6 ones with out the chrome trim?!?!? Everything else is from the B7 and has the chrome line on the moulded line!

Then it will poss be a wrapped black roof, rs4 rear arb, and a milltek system, after that it will get left alone most likely as I'll be skint, plus we will have our first rug rat by then

Some interesting comments here, thanks for the heads up, I was looking at the Exeo and wondering what it was like in the real world, economy wise and to live with in general.
