Difference between Cupra 16v and GTI 16v.

Water Boy

From the land Down Under.
Ok so iv been doing a lot of searching and looking and iv come across a lot of diiferent Mk2 models.

Now im a little confused.... What is the difference between a Mk2 Cupra 16v and Mk2 GTI 16v?
They both have 16v ABF's?

Is it body kit, stickers, interior?

Id like to know as im thinking here is Australia we got all the left over parts in 1999 and we call is a Cupra but I just think its really a GTI 16v.

Thanks!

No difference at all.

SEAT wanted to move away from using GTI and use their branding of "Cupra" (standing for "Cup Racing").

So they made the transition during the life of the MK2 Ibiza.

Not much although I think it was only the GTi models which had aircon as an option. Pretty sure the 16v GTi's never came with the red seatbelts and tiger stripes the Cupra's sometimes came with too.
