Hi , had my car 2 weeks now, dont now if this is a silly question or not,

but my headlights are on all the time, even when the switch is off, and by on i mean side lights and main lights.

I do have auto lights (tech pack) and when they are on auto they are on all the time, but im lead to believe that is normal for auto lights, but when i switch it to 0 (12 o'clock) they still remain on.

Is this just some safety feature or do i need a call to dealer.

They Are daytime running lights (drls) they are now the law on all new cars. So it is perfectly normal :)

Daytime running lights are only on the FR if you spec Xenons. There should be no lights when the switch is off.

If you don't have the LED DRLs the normal lights are on all the time, so yes it's doing exactly what it should :) VW Polo 6R does the same. Do the dash lights come on also just of interest? The lack of them in the pre-facelift is a big annoyance

i dont think they do, cant really see as its light. They are always slightly lit up in the new facelift though but i have the brightness set to lowest .

Ok so they should be on, make up your mind people :p

I had a basic ibiza 2012 as a loan car other week, didn't have DRLs nor was the main lights on, although the dials had lights on during the day, which were on but when I turned on all the lights the dial lights dimmed down and I seen a 2012 FR 2 days ago with normal lights but didn't have DRLs or main lights on.

If you have a facelift model then front lights should be on all the time, it is now a legal requirement.

all NEW! cars by law have to now have them fitted.NEW being defined as a completely new model, not a facelift model

Well if thats the case why do cars like aygos now come with them? All cars made from 2012 as far as i knew needed them.

I guess would be marketing tbh just up the price and attract buyers.

But if you googled and check seat website. Doesn't show or say anything about DRLs on normal headlights except the xenon option.

Your front lights. or sidelights may need to be on, but the rears don`t?
So Phil are your rears on too??

For info I have a pre facelift with xenons, front sidelights/drl (21watt bulbs by the way) are on all the time but no others. They go off when sidelights are turned on (5 watt bulbs) and also when headlights are on(side and headlights)

Sorry its not a legal requirement, its only a requirement for car models that need a new EU type approval. It won't be required until the mk6 Ibiza, thats the reason the Mii has day time running lights and the facelift Ibiza doesn't.

just had a look this morning as i remebered - my back lights are on as well, so to me that means it electrical problem somewhere, i will check tonight in the dark to make certain but then il phone the dealer tomorrow.

Not a big problem i now but might as well get it sorted

ok had a look in dark so its easier to see -

with the lights pointed up to 0 (12 o clock) which should be off, the front lights and the back lights are on,

if i then switch it to auto, the back lights stay the same and the front lights brighten up/turn on fully.

any ideas or is it dealer time?
