I'll see how it goes and might fit it, if the repair to the pump has nt worked.
It seemed to work ok this morning (ignoring the fact when I dropped some oil out of the power steering, I did nt replace it with enough fluid and then it complained like a bitch when I tried to drive it to work this morning.) Off to add some green stuff now :)

Hi great guide this, the previous owner of my car removed the sai but didn't fit the resistor I don't think as I've got the eml light on. Car sounds meaty on first start up and people comment on it's noise but I really should fit the resistor I think. Is a 330 ohm item ok to use then? Thanks 20v roper.

GREAT!!!

Was just about to post a thread about this but spotted it right away

Previous owner had fitted a twin cone induction kit and the hose that went from this to the air box wasn't connected to anything

I reverted back to standard and was still happening but now know what is wrong! If I want to fit a filter back to the TIP what do I do with the smaller pipe that went to the air box?

Hi guy's,got the Dyson sound on warm up so getting my pump done on Monday, got a couple a questions maybe you could help me with.
1.where's the best place to get the bolts from,B&Q?
2.Have the 5mm drill bit already to drill out the rivets, also have a 5.5mm bit , will this be ok to redrill and widen the holes on the pump?

Cheers Stuart.

just to add, i have read about some mk1 cupras suffering from juddering and backfires when the SAI is running...

i even have that problem... it sometimes coughs when pulling away. if i sit still until the SAI goes off the car runs fine....

i can hear it making noise when running so i might do this fix... cheers steve :)

shame theres no reply to say whether the juddering was fixed after repairing the pump as would be nice to know.

Mine too does the same. If i drive fron cold with the pump working it judders too. Did anyone get this "fix" to solve the juddering or does it only help quieten the pump? Also As im going to be looking at the pump would i best of be doing the fix oe just removing it and if i take it off would it be safe to drive when you first turn the key? In othed words are there any side effects of removing the pump. Cheers

Can anyone tell me or photo where the secondary air pump solenoid is please, I have checked the valve and that works fine, the pump works when I tested it before putting it back in the car but somewhere there is the solenoid. Someone told me you can turn on the pump by bridging the pins (30 and 87) on the relay but the pump isn't running. Can anyone help please??

Does the pump need to be resealed before putting the new bolts on?

I just completed this in around an hour (tea break included)
It was driving me mad, what with the ridiculous noise when the pump ran and the even more annoying EML popping up (insufficient air flow anyone) every day! I followed the guide and yes, it's really rather easy and no, I didn't use a new seal (is there one?) All of the original rivets were loose and were easily dispatched with a decent drill and 5mm bit and the 6, 5mm stainless bolts and nuts clamped the pump back together again - most happy :)
Great guide!
