hi guys i have a 2010 ibiza fr sc

this morning i closed the key and the blade snapped off the flip part of the remote.

my local seat dealership (Dales) say this is not covered under warranty and will be £190 to replace to my disbelief

have any of you guys had any problems like this ? do you know anywhere you can get the metal part that retains the key blade as this is the part that is broken?

does anyone here work at seat ? and could tell me if thats something that seat do actually cover and they are just trying to con me into spending £190 ?

its only 2 years old and done 22500 miles

Dont think it will be covered...... but i once got a new key for my focus for about 70 quid from a locksmith. Cant you buy them off ebay and get them programmed yourself?

Is it the blade that has snapped or the plastic housing that has broken ?

You can get a full 3 button key case with blank blade for about £30

Then you just swap over your electronics.

This is covered by warranty, i know this as mine has been!

Exactly the same happened to mine the blade part of the key snapped clean off with very little pressure, im in the process of having one delivered been waiting about a month now. Apparently SEAT are changing their suppliers as alot of flip keys have snapped!

Anyway dealer had no problem putting this down to warranty.

well my local dealer certainly do not want to do this under warranty.

they are insistant that it is not covered so i have wrote an email to seat customer services regarding the matter just waiting to hear back from them with what they say

the key blade and key/remote are both fine its the part that retains the blade in the remote/key that flips it around that has broken

this is the solid style flip key not the 2 piece one though.

plus being that the car is only 2 years old and done 22500 miles i do not expect to have to pay for a part that has failed and no longer does its designed function

Yes - i am talking about the flip key with three buttons (open/lock/boot) and the blade that sits in the side and flips out when you press the button.

Why are (some) dealers so reluctant to attempt to get things sorted under warranty for customers? IMO it shouldn't be the customers responsibility to contact Seat HQ and sort it, it should be the dealership who take it on, But then, i'm one of those old fashioned types who think that good customer service is the best way to make money.

I think this is more common since the change to the warranty system.

years 1 and 2 are seat direct - year 3 is dealer.

I shall just await my reply from seat UK following the complaint I wrote regarding the matter and the incompetence of my local dealer regarding other problems I have had with the car

on my previous cars, volvo included, i found that if you open the key with the palm of your hand in front of it,the key comes out gently, thus not allowing it to spring out violently, putting undue pressure on the key case.

Hmmm not sure I agree. Basic consumer law states the contract (sale) is between you and the seller, in this case the dealer, therefore the seller (who is acting as an agent) is legally responsible for the car.

Would you accept buying any other goods in a shop, finding out their faulty and being told to go contact the manufacturer? I think not :D

I have exactly the same problem and the part just snapped. SEAT Greece, I have yet to ask though, I think they do not cover broken key. Mine is just 15 months old and with 26000km.

It broke 3 weeks ago when I just reached a Greek island on the first day of my vacation! I was almost stranded on the island as I could not get the ignition turned with only the blade! So later I insert the remote control and it managed to turn it, phew! Then 2 days later, still on vacation, nightmare happened. The plastic remote control could not turn the blade as the "hole" was being enlarged due to the "improper usage" of the key! I was so sad and pissed off as I thought that I might have to ask for road help to delivery my car back to my town, which means.....from the island to the port, then on ferry back on the mainland and then about 370km to my town! I guess that would cost me maybe Euro500 or so. :( However to my last resort, I insert the small broken piece and aligned it along with the blade and then tried to turn it. Wala! It worked! However now the piece is stuck inside!

So I managed to complete my vacation and came back. Now I went to my local dealer and to my dismay, they only offer only the WHOLE key (remote with blade) if I wanted to order! THOUGH in the SEAT parts program, there were indication that the part could be ordered separately but not in Greece. However later I went to a local key maker and he had many varieties of car keys with immobilizer, unfortunately he had the other type which in one of the earlier post here with an ebay link. That is not the type of key that the MK5 or 6J IBIZA has. :( However he told me that he might be able to get his supplier to order that. Now I am waiting till next Tuesday to see what is the outcome, whether if he can or cannot get the parts. Or else no choice but to order a new one from SEAT.

The thing is, guys.....how can a damn key snapped off that easily? I did notice but it snapped off, days ago.....the key was rather "loosed" and rattled. Then it just happened and snapped. I thought I might have dropped it and caused some crack at the curve joint. But then today I read this thread and a few guys have the same problem!

Maybe I will call SEAT Greece HQ this coming Monday, to ask them since one of your guys was covered by your UK dealer.

Probably you're right. I'm still waiting for the key repairman from outside store for his reply. Come to the worse maybe I'll just order another second key to attach it along with telecontrol by a key ring.
