has anyone upgraded the horn on the facelift 2012 1.2 fr ibiza
. looking through the grill i spotted the horn unit behind the front near side foglight, but im doubtful that there is room to replace it with a twin horn [ ihad piaa in mind]
is it possible to do it without removing the bumper?

No, bumper has to come off.

How do I know? Did it last weekend.

Probably could fit a twin horn with a bit of creative fixing, only problem really though is - instead of making people aware of your frustration and their **** driving abilities, you'll just look and sound like a prize cu#t.

Air Horns in cars aren't cool.

Just go to Halford's and get a £15 low-tone "high performance" horn. Once the bumper is off, it's fitted in 2 mins and you won't get punched at traffic lights.

Thanks, all the best.

i am not intending to fit air horns, indeed the piaa are a good quality conventional horn, as fitted to up market cars.
in the interest of road safety, the seat manufactured horn is not very loud at all

Alex, was the horn plug and play?

Thanks, John

Not really, but it's pretty easy...

  1. Take the bumper off
  2. Undo bolt attaching horn to frame
  3. Detach clip going to horn - to do this you need to stick screw driver down slot to release clip
  4. Pull cable out of sheath about 3-4 cm (Don't do any further because its a ball ache to get it back in again!)
  5. Cut cable coming out back of plug and take half an inch of plastic off cable
  6. Take plastic casing off the back of the horn and put the two cables through it
  7. Attach exposed cable to terminals on the new horn - Push through eye hole, wrap around and put some black tape round. If you have the right ones you could use those push on spade clip things, not needed though really
  8. Put casing all back together and bolt back onto frame. My new horn came with two extension arm things, I used both together for extra stablilty - 1 by it self left it a bit wobbly
  9. Test It - Piss of the neigbours
  10. Tidy up and take opportunity to clean out behind bumper, leaves, fag buts, mud, dirt etc...
  11. Put bumper back on

Don't forget to point the horn downwards as well to stop moisture going into horn and breaking it.

Also, incase you were wondering, the bolt that holds it to the frame is the earth point
