Retrofit SEAT RNS510 & OEM Bluetooth

First off apologies if this is the wrong section, but noticed the ICE has been gone a little while!

Right - I have a 08 plate Cupra with factory fitted Bluetooth and therefore the large display (MFD) on the instrument cluster.

I have the opportunity of a RNS510 (presumably version B?) from a 58 plate K1, but after reading conflicting posts about bluetooth compatibility I'm a little confused.

Can some kind person clear up the following:

1) assuming my bluetooth isn't premium I won't get the phone display on the touch screen? pretty certain it won't
2) will I still get the phone book and have the ability to see who is calling and make calls from the the MFD on the instrument cluster?
3) will all my steering wheel buttons work for the bluetooth etc...
4) how easy is it to add Premium Bluetooth? Is it just a case of swapping the module under the drivers seat?

As long as my current bluetooth set up doesn't lose any functionality I'm not too fussed about it not being on the touch screen as long as I don't have to rely on my phone

Apologies again - I know this has been done to death but there does seem to be some confusion from forum to forum & thread to thread.

Thanks.

Thanks for that rllmuk.

After a little more reading, I certainly won't be fitting Premium Bluetooth as I've got an iPhone, which isn't compatible - why the hell would VW use Nokia & rSAP?

I fitted the premium and works fine with my iPhone 4S. Although you cannot control the iphone music via the radio/steering wheel controls. Everything else works fine.

Can you play the music from your iphone through the RNS 510...... if so, how?

Whats the difference between the standard & premium bluetooth?

Yes.

Once phone is paired you open the Music/iPod app, play the song and next to the volume slider it has a little screen with an arrow, press this and it gives me the option to send audio to the car bluetooth. Select this and the radio pops up asking if I want to play the bluetooth audio. Select yes and work. Crystal clear sound.

The premium has the following that I know of over the top of the standard module:

A2DP bluetooth audio streaming
RNS510 - the phone button now works and lists call logs and phone book.

Do you need the "premium" BT to do this then (audio streaming)?

Was this an option then, as I've never heard of it?

Cheers

Yes you need the premium bluetooth module to do audio streaming.

Not sure I bought a VW one and fitted it myself.

Bear in mind the "premium" bluetooth modules (9w7, 9wz) are not compatible with the red MFD in 1P cars, only the white ones in 1P1s.
Unless you get yourself a Polar FIS+ advanced... which is the best money I ever spent on my car, after buying the car itself of course ;)

My current setup is:
Pre-FL (2008) 1P Leon Cupra
FIS+ Advanced
RNS510 rev C, upgraded to FW 3970 (incidentally, the FIS+ also prevents the canbus battery drain issues with older gateways)
9W7 bluetooth unit (my OEM bluetooth unit popped, VW wanted GBP1k for a new one. I picked up the 9W7 for GBP200...)

I have - bluetooth audio streaming, with song info, displayed on both RNS510 and red MFD

NAV info displayed on red MFD
Full cellphone info display on the RNS (from my iPhone 4)

So it can be done, you just need to buy some extra bits ;)
Also, the Leon factory bluetooth only has one audio output channel, the premiums have stereo so you need to wire another pair of cables from the bluetooth connector under the seat, to the back of the RNS.

What is the full part number of your bluetooth module, as I have a premium module but doesnt display the text on the screen, just comes up with bluetooth when streaming audio from iPhone 4s (unless the iphone 4s doesnt support this)

It didn't work for me til I put FW 3970 on. With 3820 I had just Bluetooth Audio on the screen.

Thanks, just looked at the model number of the module I have and its an older premium bluetooth module :(

On the look out for a newer module that supports this, can you change the tracks via the Radio / Steering wheel too??

Yes via radio. Wheel buttons too, but only if the cluster is showing nav or audio mode though, not on the FIS+ screen. I'm sure the polar guys can fix that for me though ;)

Hey folks, I checked under the drivers seat and I have a completely different part number, you guys seem to have ones starting 7P6 whereas mine starts 1Z0 035 729 C

Plus mine has 2 brackets on one side that are screwed in, yet the part above by Sinbad actually has 3 screw mounting holes?

Are they swappable as I quite fancy AD2P streaming :D
