Hi,

Got a pair of bike racks today and intended on fitting them to my Seat roof bars, problem is the mounting points are too thin for the bars and too close together anyone got any bike racks for their Seat bars?

Thanks

I have some Altea aero roof bars which are specific to the Mk 2 Leon and some Altea bike racks which fit fine. The Altea aero bars look very similar to the Seat ones in the pic.

As said the rear bar looks too far back in the pic....from memory there should be 700mm between front and rear bars and there is an indentation in the top of the front door frame which the roof bar clip locates into.

how come no one puts towing bars on their leon cupras?

Can one be fitted? WHat about a removable one?

Sorry to hijack the thread but are those roof bars fitted on a mk2 and are they genuine Seat ones? They look a lot better than a pair of Thule ones we saw mounted to an FR a few days ago!

Just for reference

There are two lines pressed above the rear doors where you are supposed to fit the rear bars, same principle as the peg and hole above the front doors.

How do they attach and will they leave marks on the bodywork?

Hopefully get a new bike soon and don't want to use my current rack which goes over the rear hatch (generic halfords one)

front ones have a peg that fits into a locating hole behind the door, then you tighten them against each other (drivers to passenger)

rear, same principle but no peg, they are also attached to the front via a length of bar going front to rear.

this was how it work on my old car, and going off what coggie said it sounds similar for the leon.

my old car did get marked, but this might have been through excessive weight (brought some 12 14foot long 2by4's) or the load moving about, (christmas tree last winter).

i'm not bothering this time round, as i found i needed an assistant to help fit them which wasn't practical.

I've got small dents above both the rear doors, Overtightening perhaps or excessive weight?

I think I'll pass then, the only reason I don't want to use the current one is risk of damage anyway

Mine are fine with no dents and I have been carrying two bikes. Just make sure you fit them okay and you'll be fine.
