Name that sound...

Hello all,

My 2001 Leon has started making a worrying screeching sound on start-up. Seems to be a random thing as does not do it every day.

Anyway managed to get a recording.

Any ideas what this could be?

The slight delay between startup and noise suggests air con compressor. Its intermittent at the moment because it wont come on if its too cold.

It doesnt sound healthy.

That sounds bad...

One of other weird thing I've noticed recently is that the engine temp gauge never seems to reach the middle point anymore, previously it has always sat in the same place, now is fluctuates allot - not sure if the two things are related?

It actually sounds a little like what I hear every morning. But I think mine starts sooner when starting the engine, and stops earlier.

I'm interested what it is, and I will try to record mine.
