Cupra 1.8T Turbo Problem

Hi all,

Was hoping my first post wouldn't have to be a problem but here goes..

New to the forums after recently becoming the proud owner of my Ibiza due to my trusty 306gti6 finally giving up on me!

I think there's a problem with it which I hope somebody will be able to assist me with.

Basically the car starts and drives OK from cold, but it feels down on power.
I've heard that the turbo doesn't kick in from cold anyway until it's warm, but even when the car's fully warmed up, it's still down on power. I don't get a "kick" at 3kish revs.

Once the car's warmed up if I stop and start the engine the problem instantly goes away, the power kicks in once you get to around 3k revs.

I've tried this quite a few times and it's always the same. Down on power, even once it's warm, until I switch the engine off & on again.

I got it from a garage, so I could take it back, but I went about 150 miles to get it, so if it's something simple..

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!

Unplug your MAF and see if this improves the power delivery from cold.

Also, your turbo is always working from the second you turn your engine on and doesn't just kick in when your engine is warm.

Similar sounding problem I have withl mine at the minute, lack of power and hesitation on acceleration. Did abit of research and found there was a recall on coilpacks on a lot of 1.8t engines as they corrode inside. My car is booked into dealers for the work all free of charge! Something worth looking into!

See if you can find someone local to you to scan it with VAGCOM. It'll give you any fault codes that are logged. If you go to a dealers for this it will cost a fortune, or some kind soul nearby might do it for beer tokens.

If you have anything, come back and ask again and people may be able to help better before you go all the way back to where you got it. Like you said, it may be a simple fix.
