I asked this question when i first joined but im still wondering if anyone that has 215 / 45 / 16s alloys have put different size tyres on them.

reason i ask is currently i have winter tyres on my spare alloys so come end of feb ill need a set of 4 for my original ones and best ive seen so far is 100 - 130 per tyre before fitting.

my car is 1.4 5dr 85ps and is not worthy of tyres at this price. so basically i dont wont cheap set of tyres but hopefully i diff size will help if its possible.

thanks

I have the same size mate, prices are ridiculas! 128 quid for a bridgestone... If u drop the profile on the tyres to 215/40/16 u can get 2 tyres for just over 100 quid new. Worth doing tbh, make sure u have same size on the same axel

I was thinking that. Have you done it? What difference will it make to the car?
I've currently got 195/65/15 and makes no diff to the speedo as everyone said it would. Just they is less gap in the wheel arch

I havnt done it tbh mate but i plan on doing it once the time comes. Its cheaper and i cant see what difference it makes tbh. Shouldnt be a problem caus its only the profile of the tyre your changing not the width

I'm liking your thinking and its not by much. And scuse me if sounds thick but if the profile is smaller then wouldn't u be going slower than what the speedo says?

Did have on my wife's, but it now sits on 205/45 16" S-drive's.. closest match to keep within the 3% allowance...

215/14x16 compared with the standard tyre will reduce the radius and circumference of the overall wheel/tyre combination. The result of this is that for a given speedo reading the car will be going slower than before. Also, if you do use a non standard size, tell your insurance company.

Look at Blackcircles. Currently Bridgestones in 215/45x16 are £105 fully fitted.

for anyone that may be interested, my winter tyres are now wearing thin and apart from the next few days i doubt we will get much bad snow now.
so tomorrow im getting a set of new tyres for my normal alloys, i have a friend of a friend of a friend that has a garage and is gonna fit 4 x mohawks and a slightly different size to the originals for 70 a piece so 280 for the set i thought this is not bad basically when the original size is like 120 per tyre before fitting

ill let you know how i get on and how they wear etc

Never heard of Mohawks so hope they are ok. It's only 1.4 85ps so not exactly ripping up Tarmac in it
