Does your DSG car whine in 1st or 2nd gear at low speeds? Mine is doing it and don't recall it doing it before the DSG oil service recently?! Any advice or opinions will be appreciated guys ;)

Mine did when I had it. Usually most noticeable when the engine was cold. Edit. Only made a slight whine when slowing down in 2nd and 1st, never when accelerating.

Hi

No, mine doesn't make this noise in any gear.

Hope it's nothing terminal as I know the DSG box is costly if it goes wrong?!!

How old is your car & how many miles? I've had mine from new on 06 plate & done 67k.

Cheers

Never noticed it.

Sometimes the first gearchange on with cold engine can be a bit clunky (which I put down to the gearbox oil being stone cold as well), but that's the only thing I've noticed happening.

Having said that, what conditions make it whine? A low gear whine from a manual transmission if you have the clutch engaged but no throttle on isn't that unusual, and straight cut gears are particularly noisy.

2007 FR with 48k mileage. Only at low speeds say driving down high streets etc around 10-15mph in second gear. Sounds like reverse gear but quieter. Googled it and seems quite common/normal in low gears (1-2)...Got x2 weeks of warranty left tho so??

They'll probably fob you off, but get it looked at. It'll be a "discovered during warranty period" fault then, which might help if it turns out to be serious.

Yeah might as well get it looked at...no effect on performance and isn't noticeable under heavier acceleration only at slow speeds, for example...my high street has speed bumps every 20 metres (approx) so if I drive slowly so that it doesn't change up to 3rd (normally as I get to next bump) and stay in second it's a high gear whine noise (not excessively loud) if that makes any sense?! Lol

This seems to be through low speeds in first gear and then when changing into second it continues at say 10-15mph

I'd prob get that checked, mine is pretty silent in 2nd, only noise is when shifting down into first

Well.....

Took car into dealers like u guys suggested and after it got a check over they said....

Bearings in DSG may have gone!!!! Offering me a replacement car or the possibility of a refund if nothing suited! Can't believe it

At least it was under warranty still by 10 days! Wondering whether to go for manual next? Lol

Blimey - quite a result in a way, but shows how expensive a repair may be.

For the record mine has always whined a little bit, but you can only hear it when alongside a wall with windows open at low speed - I've had my 08 DSG FR since new and it's now on 67k...

Yeah, mine does that since day one. And as mentioned above, it's very noticeable when the engine is cold, however as it gets warmer the sound gets quieter. It's annoying but I have learned to live with it.

Well.... Garage are now disputing it!!?? :wtf:

Apparently my warranty may not cover it was the first thing...then that my warranty may only be expired (even tho 3 months was confirmed at point of sale by salesman with the manager)...only purchased the car on Dec 20th last year.

So after talking with Office of Fair Trading, Motorcodes, Seat UK and the dealers Head Office. Under sales of goods act 1979 if product is not of satisfactory quality within a reasonable amount of time, then the consumer is within legal rights to either repair/replace or refund...the dealer principle is calling me Monday so will see what's said before taking legal action if needed!

And here was me thinking that the dealership were doing a good job of trying to resolve my issue at first lol

Just about anything other than a car and you'd have just had a refund.

Why is it that cars are some special case where the dealer can try to renegotiate a warranty after purchase? You wouldn't get any of that nonsense if it was a washing machine you'd bought from Currys...
