Hi guys just wondering how often my car should be doing a regen, its done two in past 300miles, only noticable by increased idle and slight hesitation in fourth gear, is this normal. Its got 70k miles on and I mainly do town driving but it gets a good run out when I travel to work daily

seems a bit soon to be honest i would continue to monitor it for now and see how it does over the next few regen cycles

Mine does it every week and I do 17000 miles a year. Always happens after a quick blast down motorways and always continues once I finished.
The light has never come on mind you so never been a problem.

Mine never regens... ;) haha

It's more of a helpful hint than a brag.

If you're doing mostly down-driving and short trips you're in the DPF danger zone

I do motorway but its restricted to 50mph at the movement so in 6th your only at around 1500rpm then it's 3 miles of 70mph again then I come off so I think it's trying to do a regen. Sometimes I go to the next junction turn around then come back and it's fine then but it's 10 mile round trip so rather annoying when I want to get home on a night lol.

I wouldn't say normal, or rather, I can't say whether its normal but part of what it does is temporarily increase boost so that you don't feel a difference in driving. So basically it works the turbo harder to compensate. (Another reason why DPFs are sh*t??).
So you might feel a difference in driving behaviour as it is "emulating" normal driving conditions while its in regen

I never really notice when mine does a regen but the last time I checked on vcds it said it had done 380 kms since last regen so around 300 miles depending on type of driving seems not far away.

Why not drop a gear in the 50 limit ?

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but how do you find information on the last regen in vcds? Still learning the ways of vcds.

If you go into Engine, Advanced Measuring Blocks, there is an option to tell you the ash content, mileage since last regen, fuel consumption since last regen and other stuff like that. There's bloody loads of options.

I think you can check the ash content of the DPF also but I haven't a clue how to do it (VCDS owner)

Yeah that is under 01-Engine >> Meas. Blocks - 08 >> Group 108.

It gives a "calculated" (field 2) and a "measured" (field 3). Not sure the difference between them. All I know is if the measured goes above 24g the DPF light will come on, above 45g and a new DPF is needed.

Cheers man, found it under group 106. Like you said bloody loads of information on everything you need to know about your DPF.

Are you on a Pre FL car Dan?

In my FL car, I can't view normal measuring blocks.
