Today did something about my seats, anyone who's been I a hawk knows that the seats are no longer the nice tight supportive seat they used to be, now I could and nearly did buy jdm version 9 seats, but there wrong for the car and also have no airbags.

So what to do.

Unzip the back of the seat

B94DB9E2-D879-4E2D-A4DF-82E2FE906DE1-25635-000010C3E0196AA6_zps6ad628d0.jpg

Then decided to remove it altogether, battery off and unclipped, and put on my bench

You need to take the side plastics off, couple of screws and a bolt

6F734E8C-E121-4924-B516-0298712AE574-25635-000010C3A1692F54_zps6bc66bfe.jpg

The seat covers use the normal plastic snaps so come off easy

Now my right lower bolster was starting to compress due to getting in/out etc so looked at that too

Once you have bit off the foam can lift off, this is the bit that rubs through

33626938-EA6B-4642-AD12-DB3DEF8CBCF8-25635-000010C3E5F114E6_zpsaa17cdcb.jpg

So I used a low density foam to cover it.

Then set about making new bolsters

677C487B-BADE-42E1-B8D1-8988258F2626-25635-000010C3CDB43C9A_zpse9d849b7.jpg

The foam layout is hd and ld foams once I was happy I permanently attached them with duct tape.

Left side done right oem

Once the bottom had been done I moved to the upper back,
This has three springs along it. You can pulley these back and stretch them, this takes the push effect out of the seat. I also did this to the base.

I ran out of big pieces of foam so got a bit of new carpet underlay for the bolster.

I traced the black parts if the seats a d installed the foam

Then from the back of the seat I added son smaller hd packing around the rib area. I also took out the middle spring

Once you've sat in it and are happy build it back up and your done

The seat feels 100 times better.

Being 2.5 there very torquey and spool earlier than a 2.0.

I love them.

Oh btw I'm painting it white :)

Today I degreasers the car heavily.

I will continue to do so over the week, weekend is the start of the project hopefully.

Also removed the rear spoiler. Whcih being three piece I sikka flexed on, and broke one cap. So repair needed on that !

The price (considering their rarity) is reasonable and they're regarded as the best bottom end for any scooby build.

They have the cylinder bore face of the block welded over then all the water jacket holes are drilled resulting in a rock solid bottom end which also helps preserve the head gaskets.

TBH the early 2.5 is pretty robust but the later 2.5 engines were the subject of much cost cutting which resulted in many different failures.

As far as I'm aware. The weak points are hg and ring land. Not heard of any bottom end issues.

The engine could come out, new hg, bolts n forged pistons and a safe 400bhp can be run. App

The hatchback impreza from 2008+ with the 2.5 has lots of issues and its all down to spending cuts in the materials.
Shite quality head gaskets and poor face machining
Weak blocks and crappy (play doh) rods
Brittle pistons and easily damaged bore liners
Oil drinking bottom ends and turbos

The list goes on.
We have 2 in at the moment with the above problems and finished off a 2007 forester STI import last week with failed gaskets, all on less than 50k.

The car itself is very clean, but it had a few wibbles, these ain't dents but small marks in the panel. So blocked them down and primed then along with the front bumper
