Hi,
Last week when driving to work 3 warning lamps have come on my dashboard. These are ABS, Tyre pressue and ESP malfunction. These come on and stay on until I finish driving. They dont come on immediately but seem to be triggerred when turning the steering wheel, say when going around a corner. I have checked under the bonnet and all levels seem to be ok. Can someone please help?

Cheers,
Paul

You need to plug it into diagnostics - may well be an ABS sensor

Thanks for your quick reply m0rk.

I guess I should take it into a garage then... Do you know much it the sensors are and how much they are fitted?

Parts vary (depending on quality) from about £35 to £60 (gsf prices)

30 mins work to fit, probably the same again to diagnose

Take it to a VW specialist, or main dealer - or ask in the VAG-COM section for someone local to you to scan your car & you can DIY then

I have had a diagnositic guy come out and he says its the rear(drivers side) abs sensor that is faulty. He said that the fault code was 287 - I think... Anyway, I have had a look on the internet(ebay) to buy it,so that I can DIY but not sure which one I need. It looks like there are a couple of types??? a kind of Y looking sensor and some with a long cables...

I dont want to take the wheel off then start work on it and then identify the part to then put it all back together until I get the part. Any ideas of what I need?

Cheers,
Paul

Hi There,
Had the same three lights myself recently - and same diagnosis... Rear ABS Sensor.
Replaced the sensor (naively!), and during the removal/fitting, found it was the ABS sensor ring on the actual wheel hub that had corroded away over time, which made the sensor mis-read - and therefore produce a fault code.
Had to replace the whole hub as I couldn't find an ABS hub sensor ring as a separate part...
Hope this helps!
