hi guys

had some troubles with my car, and found the problem to be the new turbo.

I have to change the turbo again no so would please like some advice/ suggestions as to what turbo to have.

ive got a seat leon cupra 20vt, it was 250bh on a K03s turbo. somehow the new turbo that was fitted was k03 and it caused so many problems.

what would you recommend? K03s, k03s hybrid, k04, k04 hybrid? and what mods would I have to do to for your choices.

also any recommendations about the best place to buy the turbo would be appreciated.

or would it be better to get my old k03s fixed, and where would you recommend please

thanx in advance

depends what you want and how deep your pockets are , k03s can be had for £150 , good hybirds can be had from 475-700 but need bigger injectors , maf , housing and map to suit

where would you recommend getting the k03s?

not sure what Im gona do yet, just phoning around, and get some info about the different turbos.

I was quite happy with the k03s I had. what difference does a hybrid make?

thank you

dpends what spec hybrid you go for blackwidow turbos , ranging hybrid 260(bhp) to k300 (300bhp) but would neeed rods for that , if you was happy with ur car before u such getting a replacement k03s tbh

nice 1 for that. will look more into it today.

don't want to rush things like last time, spent over £1500 and the cars still not working.

thanx :)

Check with the turbo suppliers that fish listed in your other post about new turbos. You need to talk with them to see what mods they do to the turbo. Some put a heat resistant coating on the hotside and some put in an uprated thrust bearing and some add a ko4 compressor housing. Some mill out the ko3s compressor housing and put a larger wheel in. cutback hotside fins allow more flow at higher revs but make the turbo spool up later.

My ideal spec would be heat treated hotside, roller bearing conversion if possible and I think a larger size ko3s compressor wheel should be good for 270 bhp with uprated fmic exhaust and so on.

Turbo technics rates their ko3s hybrid at 250bhp with supporting mods and from memory neither of it's housings or wheel sizes are altered. But you need to confirm this with them to be sure for yourself.

Nice 1 m8. Ill deffo look in to this. I'm new to this repair and replace parts stuff. With my other cars I've just broken em for spares, but I love my cupra. I had it at 250bh before the turbo went on a standard k03s with a revo map, and it was pretty dam fast. So aiming to get nothing less than 250bh now. Garage have just phoned me now offering to fix and upgrade my old turbo with k04 parts for £595 + vat and apparently I won't need to change the injectors?! Really don't know what to do, I'm gona take my time now not rush like last time. A lot of garages take the piss coz I'm a woman, so gona shop around this time :)

Cheers for the advice :)

250bhp on a standard ko3s is stonking. I have a ko3 in my 1.8t audi a6 and am hoping to get 200bhp out of it next wed with a stage 1 custom map. The guy does all his own maps making everyone of them custom. Bill bagers section may have more info or a thread on ko3 and ko4 differences. A straight ko4 requires some hareware changes, manifolds etc. I say etc because I can't remember exactly. I think a hybrid ko3s fits in a lot more easily.

Could you send me some links please? Having a bit of difficulty finding my way round these forums on my phone tonight, and can't find anything I'm looking for :( :(

Thank you

Thank you!!

Just an update, my baby's been in the garage all weekend, they've fitted a k04 turbo. Had it back today, and it goes well, but need a new remap again, and thinking of getting it on a rolling road to see what comes of that.

Thinking of a custom remap so gona take time now to look through forums, see whats best to get. I was really happy with the first remap from revo, so might go back with them.

Thanx for the links :D

I wouldn't go for bypasses or anything just a good diverter valve and check that there are no boost leaks. My remap showed a boost leak between the turbo and throttle body, most likely the diverter valve. The threads that I have read imply that the n75 and n249 do serve a purpose and if you go for nXX deletes that you need to set it up exactingly and well to ensure smooth running and damage free motoring.

your miss informed no one bypass n75 unless there running stupid power levels and find stock n75 valve can't cope , so opted for mbc or ebc but most good tuners can map to suit stock n75 , the standard revised bosch dv as proven react better than forge or any1 piston type dv and hold 2 bar of boost without leaking , the code you (pressure drop between throttle body and dv is so common every1 asumes it dv but it rarely is often boost leak) , bypassing the n112 and n249 is commonly done for two reason , to tidy up the bay and eliminate the load of vacuum lines and check valves that are only used for cold start emission reasons nothing else no performance benefits what so ever , i've done it on all my 1.8ts and never had any issues so as many thousands of other 1.8ts owner , its so simple to do i can remove it fully in less 2 hours without take bumper off

Thank you. Was just suggested to do the n249 bypass to eliminate some of the pipes really. The less pipes available for leaks, the better for me. So think will be going ahead with this. I'm pretty sure the n112 has already been disconnected, is that the secondary air? Going to order a stock dv as been advised by many. And getting a custom map from ecotech in buckley. It's booked in for end of the week.

Thank you :)

Will post dynos once it's done, and keep u posted

Thanx

Sir, you put it much better than I ever could. :) I like the idea of getting rid of a load of pipes but not to fussed on a catch can. My remapper said it was a custom map but how could it be if it was losing pressure and generating different powers on each run. The map is in the ecu now but the dv is what he advised. He didn't give me the soft code just looked it up and told me it was a lose of pressure between the turbo and throttle body. The dv I was thinking off was the one for the tt something 710n with another number 0280142114.

Looking forward to your power graphs OP.
