Well, mine is a very typical Cupra. It’s had all the normal issues like the optional swimming pool, coil packs that give up, dodgy radio arial base unit, ARB and control arm bushes, VVT Gasket, thermostat, vacuum and boost leaks, rattling dash, speedo that’s over optimistic.

But in 12 months of ownership and lots of persistence these have all been sorted now. But then again, it is on 140K miles.

I’ll be interesting to see what they make of it, because sometimes It doesn’t feel quick anymore, I’ve kinda got used to it. Then when there’s some sales rep in a TDI or 17 year old with a cd player more powerful than there engine, it always puts a smile on my face to do them up the duel carriageway off the lights.
Then there was the holiday in west Wales in the mountains. Don’t think I would have gotten up some of them hills without that low down torque.

I’m a little concerned they might tell me it’s too old and past it. Because for me, she’s still got a great ass 11 years in, and is a pleasure to drive.

Seems a bit stupid placing a cupra against the r32 and s3!

Thought they would have went for an lcr as a match

My tdi fr would be more of a match :O

Depends on what the comparrison is?
If it's how much car you can get for the cost, the LC is a lot of car for the money!
Good solid fast car from VAG 20V bullet proof engine for under £2K. Parts are welll priced and most jobs can be done on the drive at home!

For the amount of car you get for your hard earned cash the LC gets my vote, thats why I got one!

Leon is defo the best car from the mk4 platform, am gonna be biased though and say the FR+ TDI is the best mk 1 Leon to have, nothing to do with me having one though, lol

AL

Will be nice to see what 5th gear think of it with an un-biased view!

Just saw this. I have a Mk1 Leon cupra and live in coventry! Its in the garage for a new cambelt tomorrow though. I'll keep an eye out for the photoshoot. I'll bet you a tenner they use the Fosse way for part of the shoot

Good watch that, thought the cupra might have done better although how many people actually track them anyway.

On normal roads there is very little between them, even standard, my mate Matt has a 270hp mk1 Focus RS couldn't pull away from my LCR, in fact mine pulled on the RS, the mk1 focus RS is a sexy looking car though, they still hold their money well, but a bit more hardcore for daily use than a LCR

Defo agree the the mk1 focus RS is a sweet car, think the focus ST helped the RS hold they're money a bit more with them being so poor, had a go in one and it was terrible to drive.

Would still have my FR TDI before any of them though.
