Buying advice Cupra r

I'm in the market to start looking to buy a leon cupra r 225. Probly to buy in September/October time. Looking for a standard one or maybe one with some engine mods. And red with full service history (I'm quite specific lol)
Is there anything I should be looking out for. I've read Cambelt and water pump, possibly gearboxes could be an issue? And leaky door seals?

Someone at work said today the oil pickup is **** on them and can destroy the engine if the gauze gets blocked?
I know this is an issue on mk4 golf 1.8turbos but I thought this was a different?

Thanks in advance for any advice
Tommy

I will be selling my Mk1 Leon Cupra R 225, remapped to around 260 in Oct/Nov.

It's currently done 23k miles and is in mint condition. Apart from Remap, everything is standard. FSH.

Interested?

make sure the cambelt & waterpump has been done. 60k or 4 years whichever first
make sure the car doesn't overheat as this could indicate the waterpump is on its way out but this could also mean faulty thermostat. AMD tuning in Essex will do a waterpump and cambelt fitted for £300 which I thought was reasonable.

make sure it has full service history especially oil changes at least every 10k miles lack of oil changes will probably lead to a blocked pick up amongst other things

the cooling fans on the LCR are prone to failure aswell they have a slow speed and high speed setting, the resistor burns out on the slow speed which means the high speed is used a hell of a lot more than it should. this can pop the fuse or even burn the high speed resistor resulting in no cooling fans. solution for this is to do the resistor mod which is covered on this forum or buy new cooling fans which is a lot of ££££

gearboxes are not really a problem as such. they can whine in certain gears when decelerating, mine does this in 3rd and has done since I bought it but the gearbox still feels tight and doesn't crunch.

door seals can leak, again mine did this when I first bought it, although luckily I managed to catch it and repair before it saturated my interior carpet! the repair guide is on the forum and cost me no more than £15

these cars are prone to boost leaks now as they are 6-12 years old now! take it for a drive and make sure everything feels ok.
a worthwhile investment would be to buy a copy of VAGCOM off ebay with a cable which is around £40
best thing I probably bought for this car, any problems and vagcom if your best friend.

I love my LCR and do not regret buying one. good luck with the search mate!

I do want red but the black looks nice. Are you in fleet? I'm not far from there so that's a bonus

Yer, I'm in fleet. Work in Reading. Where about's are you based?

There was someone on here advertising an LCR with the tag *Lowest Mileage LCR 46k miles*...quite clearly that isn't the case haha

Seriously though, if your looking to buy in Autumn, get in contact and you can have a look.

Low mileage is due to previous owner being an old boy chauffeur. He used this at the weekends. It's in absolute mint condition and has been mapped by a local VAG tuning garage that you would have heard of if your nearby.

Well, it's currently sat just over 23k miles, I estimate it to be around 25-26k miles by October. It's in mint condition. It's not going to be as cheap as the stuff that's currently going on Autotrader/Pistonheads/eBay. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. I'd rather wait till closer to the time before we talk money but as a ball park, there is/was a similar LCR on Autotrader with 46k miles, going for £5,500. Depends on if your looking for a bargain or a quailty example of an LCR doesn't it :)
