Hi peeps, here is the story, coolant pump failed last week and car read a powertrain fault. Rang about, got quotes, took it to a VAG specialist in the end due to price quoted and I have my car serviced there. Car is a 59 reg Boc, garage ordered wrong pump and thus price went up, but still the cheapest. I got the car back today, garage closed as I left, look down and engine management light still on. Scanned the car with Bluetooth OBD reader and still got powertrain fault and no supercharger, but have turbo. The pump looks the same as the last and I know that the supercharger is fed via the water pump, all connectors are on and I haven't got a clue why it isn't working. Car is no longer in limp mode, but obviously down on power up to 3k revs when you feel the turbo spool up and kick in.

Any idea's as to what is up with it, already spent a good amount on getting it sorted, any idea's greatly appreciated as I don't like the car being ill.

I have to try all angles before delving into my wallet again, besides, the sound of the supercharger was the cars way of saying lets go play.

Good question, there is one there, but it was too dark for me to see if it had moved. I know when the pump broke it wasn't moving, but was in limp mode anyway. Receipt doesn't indicate a belt purchase though. Plus they said they had cleared all fault codes.

I have done fuel saving for this week by using my Dad's Mondeo diesel.

Brownshores Motor's, Willenhall. Not impressed, had to keep chasing them and price more than doubled on quote. Just cleared fault code and round the block, no supercharger.

Didn't know about them to be honest. Used Brownshores when I lived in Wolverhampton, moved to Burntwood, but still work in Wolves. Now I know, will speak to them as I don't the no I am gonna get it sorted with Brownshores. They haven't filled me with confidence. I did Google for VW specialist s near me and it didn't come up.

I have already burnt £350 sorting the pump out. I shall pay them a visit Monday after a harsh chat with Brownshores, thanks for the recommendation.

Update: Midlands VW showed me under the car where previous mechanic failed to fit boost pipe for supercharger adequately and there was a screw for the supercharger silencer missing. The question was whether it was a VW water pump fitted, previous garage has shown me receipt and it is. So the problem lies with the wiring to the pump then. When car originally broke down it had a vw10AD fault which indicates supercharger wiring problem. So car needs to be stripped back down, pump checked and wiring traced and checked. Cost will be about £400, which I don't have at the moment. Midlands VW were great though, was good to talk to them about part numbers and see under the car in detail. As soon as I have the cash, it is going to get sorted.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Update: right where to start. Managed to have the Boc parked up over Xmas for about a month while I borrowed a car to do the silly miles I was doing for work over Xmas. Saved up some cash and rang Seat (Stealer where I got car from originally). They said first things first a £48 diagnostic s and full car check. It went in and they diagnosed a faulty water pump, quoting £440 to replace. I told them to sort it and get it flying again. Next day they rang and said that they spent half an hour getting to the pump, disconnected it and ran 12 volts through it. The Supercharger clutch snapped into action. They connected it to the car and took it for a spin. Joy of joys it worked flawlessly. Cost of repair, one hour mechanics time equalling £50. They rang and told me, the car was overdue service and it was £255 for a major one. While they had I told them to give it the full service and try it in anger to ensure the clutch was fine for the supercharger. It was, costing me £355 in total, I now have the Boc back to full working order, cleaned inside and out plus 12 months Seat Assist membership for free. Only thing they could find needed doing was a new drivers side tyre which is currently at 3 mil. Super service and car pulls superbly.
