Hi I recently posted on here about a Seat Leon with the BTCC kit on it for £9000. This has now been sold.

The dealer has a 62 Ibiza FR in, 1.2 tsi, sat-nav, 2500 miles and for £9995. It doesn't have the 17 inch targus alloys on it but the dealer said he can put the non facelift ibiza sport 17's on it.

Could I get anymore out of the dealer? Any suggestions?

I managed to get the 17's I wanted put on there. I'll have to wait as the wheels are currently on a demonstrator. Can't wait for it! Going to be much faster than the 65 bhp grande punto.

Yep, and much more expensive to fix, when engine fails.

On paper TSI is really good, but in real life it is a crappy engine and i would not recomend it.

I have a friend with 2012 Polo 1.2 TSI, and he is at the dealers for the third time. Only has around 20k kilometers. He has a problem with turbo.

1.2 TSi is very reliable overall. Odd Reports of turbo issues and high oil consumption but is relatively few and far between. Had a couple of Ibiza's on here that have had new turbos on here - being a forum you do tend to hear more about the issues...

i've had my 1.2 tsi fr for 6 months and had no issues whatsoever (touch wood) found it to be quite a fun and reliable engine to be honest

When i was buying my car, everybody (including the dealer) told me to avoid TSI engines, as they are crap.
So 1.4 is not good, but 1.2 is.

Basically yes, but only the twin charger 1.4 is best avoided. The 1.4 122 and the new 1.4 138 turbo have had very few issues. Odd turbo issue and high initial oil consumption.

My 1.2 TSI developed an oil leak within the first 3000 miles, low pressure turbo return pipe is what i was told, fixed under warranty though :)

A dealer said that !?

Yes he did. We were discussing about engines for my ibiza and he said, that 1.4 16v is much more reliable than 1.2 tsi. And that he would recomend 1.4. So i went for that.

Mistake or not, time will tell...

1.4 16v has had issues that are sorted and is a less complex engine. But the 1.2TSi is far from unreliable and a wee bit of Bullpoo, looks like he was trying to sell you a car with a bigger bonus on it!! VW were keen to sell us a 1.4 16v more so than a 1.2 60/70, it was the 1.4 we wanted though. Just played games with them to get the deal I wanted...

1.4 16v is fine as long as the Cambelt is changed on schedule otherwise it snaps and destroys the engine
1.4 TSI 122 seems troublesome as mine needed a new turbo and timing chain this year, but no oil usage issues

1.2tsi seems pretty good and complements the Ibiza, the amount that are made shows its fairly reliable. The 1.4tsi however get one with a warranty, the new ones are far better.
