Is the 0.63 a ratio of the inducer to the exducer size? The closer the value to 1 then it needs or is able to extract more energy from the waste gases at higher rpm and make more big end power. Is that the correct way of it?

I remembered later that I was talking rubbish and that the A/R ratio is to do with the cross-sectional area of the opening of the exhaust turbine housing divided by the distance from the centre of the turbine shaft to the centre of the cross-sectional area.

Interesting reading. I found the bit about dividing and grouping complementary cylinders enlightening as I'd never thought about it before. I seen that it should be cylinders 1 + 2 and 3 + 4 that should be grouped for a 4 cylinder firing order of 1-3-4-2. not the 1 + 4 and 2 + 3 that they state. I think the purpose of this is to stop the exhaust blowing through the closing exhaust valve of another cylinder as it transitions to suck and trying to blow the incoming charged air back out. Then this event could be better directed to turning the exhaust turbine.

Small update... have painted a few things but not taken pics as yet as I have a couple more things to sort...

In the meantime I got a pic sent to me from Marcus at F4B UP who is doing the welding for me...

early done... exhaust flange, tial flange and wastegate left to do... I am getting the mani back so I can review the wastegate position as I am not 100% as to where I want it to go as yet..

...in other news... my order for hoses etc from ASH came today... sterling service considering I ordered this little lot from eBay on boxing day and it turned up via courier on a Saturday!!...

100mm pipe work for the TIP, 63mm hose for turbo outlet plus a TB hose and some stuff to use for the PCV... should have the charge pipe stuff arrive next week too...

Should have another update at some point this week as I have all next week off to play :D

Did a little more today...

Fitted the partially welded manifold to my engine as the charge pipe stuff had turned up...

Found an ideal alloy bend, 63mm OD and 600mm long... pretty much does the whole top pipe without welding lol (although I will have to as I'll explain later)

The brackets and clamps need a little modification of course as they are designed for the 60mm OE pipe which has a tighter bend too...

So I cut slits in the clamps to open them up a little and welded it all up... (ok, I used loads of tacks as thats all I can really do at the moment lol)

Extended the clamp and welded all back together...

The finished result is that the pipe sits in nice and the clamps fit too...

Had to pack the clamp up a little to allow clearance for the cam belt cover...

Next I need to add a slight bend to each end as the OE pipe pitches down past the clamp to connect to the hose going off past the the headlight and the hose off the turbo is a little kinked so a slight bend in the pipe will sort that too...

For those in doubt that my quest for OEM++ may be a little unachievable with a dirty great turbo bolted to the back of the engine then maybe this will give you an idea of where I am heading...

Still got the wastegate to sort out and a few other odds and sods... have ordered the heatshielding and heat wrap for the downpipe... have also emailed a couple of companies asking for quotes on ceramic coating as I think its worth getting the mani done..

Very nice update. Although i was hoping to see a wastegate making its way on there ;)
When it comes to brackets and clamps etc, all you need is tack welds.
I was becoming a little doubtful it would still be oem looking but damn your doing a good job of that

Bit more progress today... in between helping Bill with the Lupo I managed to get a few more things sorted...

Cut the angled alloy pieces I needed for the charge pipe and trimmed the hose from the turbo to suit...

Unfortunately ran out of argon for the TIG so couldn't weld them today but plan is to flush the welds before painting...

Next I fitted the manifold/turbo into the car to make sure everything fits and to work out the wastegate... fitted coolant hoses and the elbow for the TIP...

Next I played with the wastegate... I am a little limited due to the lower position of everything... so ended up with this...

Today I have been doing a bit of finishing up on the B5 Lupo... mainly sorting the cam cover (that of course I painted lol) and the heatshielding...

Did a few little things on mine today... the way the cover sits bothered me... it was never right since I fitted the new inlet and modding the charge pipe bracket made the cover sit lower and touch the charge pipe so I drilled out the spot welds holding the cover locating tab and tapped for M4...

...then flattened out the little brackets that the front clips of the cover fix too...

...redrilled the hole to retain positioning and trimmed off the rest... painted them black (of course)

Cover now sits better (much more level) with clearance for the charge pipe...

Last thing I did was to drill and tap the turbo's compressor housing for a boost take off that will be used by the N75... I did this rather than have a stub welded onto the charge pipe as its one less thing to weld (they are fiddly little things) and keeps the top of the engine free of pipes etc... obviously I painted the brass fitting :)

Charge pipe and throttle body should be welded up tomorrow... throttle body is just getting a few beads welded on to stop the hose from popping off..

Charge pipe will be flushed/smoothed before painting :)

Keeping the n75 and dv spouts off the main charge pipe makes for a nice clean bay, and easier life for charge pipe removal.

So... it is the end of my christmas holiday... back to work tomorrow to deal with creating data exports for the crazy french :(

Anyhoo... at a point where there are loads of small jobs to do... Bill welded beads onto the 70mm throttle body which of course I then painted... before I could fit it though I had to re-drill the adaptor plate for the 70mm TB... I had already had the bore taken out to 70mm so I marked up the holes, drilled and tapped

I have now also removed the penetration from the welded beads and finished the inside of the TB a little to clean it up... Bill had also welded up the charge pipe so set to work flushing, filling and painting that..

Looked at the oil/coolant lines too... oil feed test fitted... will make some brackets etc to hold that securely..

Started on a coolant line but tbh I am not happy with it so I have ordered some more stainless and going to have another go...

I really need to add a flexi in but seeing as I had a small incident involving fire and stuff with a burst 'flexi' on my last setup I have some better ideas on that but as Bill did point out I would be better off getting the oil drain done first as this dictates the clocking of the CHRA... once done then the coolant lines can be sorted...

Got a few other small things sorted and made a list of stuff to order next week... charge pipe was dry but yet again the bloody paint reacted despite me trying to be careful this time (other stuff turned out fine) so fitted it to the engine anyway knowing it will need sorting later...

So thats it for now... need to order a load of kit in the week including stuff to make the oil drain, some seals and stuff, clutch plate and exhaust boxes to make the back box... heatshielding should arrive in the week... going to use a combo of the OE one as its not bad on K04 cars and sure it up with other tactically placed shielding as required... plan is to turn key early February

My feet are actual killing me with all the standing up lol... not used to it at all :D

Getting near now mate, when is she back on the road. March:)

..at the latest... plan to try and get the car ready at the beginning of feb but will of course be subject to the remaining fabrication jobs and Bill's availability for welding whatever I put together...

Once I have all the main bits needed to get the engine in and the car running I'll do another big push to get a chunk done and the new engine in at least..

Home stretch now though...

You'll be glad to get your bum sat down then to do data exports:shrug: whatever that is. Very impressive work, wish my mum would give me her garage to do something similar :D Closest I've got is rebuilding my turbo and even that was just new bearings and put it back in the raging wind outside :cry:. Anyway, just sort of envious :).

Just one thing - the stock charge pipe has a little spigot/stub underneath that sits in one of the grooves on the bracket. I'm 95% positive that leaving this off some custom charge pipes I did a while back is what helped them to blow the silicon off the charge pipe, because the whole charge pipe moves north west in the mountings.

Sorry if it's a bit late, just thought I'd mention it.

Edit: Mind you, the ends of ours weren't swaged, but I would still think about it.

Phil LOL, it was only last week I finally fitted my Feel Charge pipe only been on the shelf for 7 years and I have to say its great...... I gained 3g/sec in airmass flow. :funk:
The stock chargepipe silencer is super restrictive.
