I think the options will make the car what it should have been as standard , don't get me wrong the standard spec is good , but I fear the options pricing will push you into golf R money then that's a different ball game.
I think its definitely priced too close to the golf R, S3. At £25k without options its would be do able but also tuning these, it appears you wont be far off 400hp with a map and an exhaust and at that point with fwd its gonna be pointless unless the conditions are perfect.
With an intake and ic, who knows 450hp. Oettinger have got 350hp out of the mk7 golf with no turbo tweek.
I think if anyone is wanting to tune this new Cupra past stage 1 (370hp), with the price difference they'd be mad to not go down the golf R, S3 route. 2-3k difference and use able power all the time no matter the weather is awesome.
Can only imagine what my S3 is gonna be like tuned with this new engine.

Is that 350 bhp out of a golf gti? Or golf R?
The trouble with going for a golf R or S3 the price point break you mention it would be a poverty spec in comparison to the Cupra.
I hear what your saying about power increases and 4wd but you and others before have pushed the boundaries of stage 2+ Cars in fwd guise.
I would like to see how the diff performs with the extra bhp.
Everyone knows once a car is mapped it performs differently to the standard car , so will be good to see how the LSD copes with another 80 odd bhp.
Value wise I don't think there is anything on the market that comes this close , cost v performance v standard kit v emissions and mpg.
The only thing the golf and Audi will have over the Cupra is residuals.
You'll be surprised at the expected residuals for this car from what was mentioned yesterday (I don't have the figures to hand).

I reckon by the time you factor in residuals the price difference between the 3 will be negligible. The golf r will probably be the cheaper buy over 3 years or so looking at residuals. The cupra will lose about 10k in a year no doubt. After 4 years the gfv on my S3 is 16-17k for an example.
In good weather the Cupra will be awesome but at stage 2+ this engine will be over 400hp how far over I dunno probably somewhere between 420 and 450hp. Ive defo been converted to 4wd, been able to just plant the right foot and get launched into the distance even in the rubbish weather we've had is amazing especially when combined with dsg.
Having been in Hurdys golf R with 400hp and the S3 been nearly 100kg lighter, tbh I was blown away at how fast that thing was, it would have absolutely murdered my Cupra, and to think that kind of performance is there pretty much from a map and an exhaust. I wouldn't want to be managing that in a fwd car, it would be an animal at stage 2+ 420hp+ god knows.

Difference is Scott your an enthusiast who probably felt like a kid in a candy store and noticed and remembered every little detail , I bet when you went to sleep last night you kelp seeing the car and thinking about it ! Lol
Journos move from one car review to the next , they are probably thinking more about the high end cars than the hot hatch market.
And that's why you don't get independent reviews anymore , they see a vw badge and think it's better than a seat or skoda then have to be persuaded to take the car seriously.
Would be interested about residuals but if they are good as you say that surely will have an impact on discounts being offered ?
Not sure about £10k in a year loss , even the focus at is only managing about £6k
But that's the point I was kind of making ,
If you go by mk6 golf R residuals 3 year old cars were still on the market at £25k for a £30k car
So in 3 years they lost £5k
The Cupra on a £28k car over the same 3 years I would have expected to loose around £10-12k
So will be interesting to see Scott's info
Have you bought your car Rob or got it on pcp? I take it pcp from your gfv ? That's a big hit on 4 years ? Lost half it's value.
one other thing i meant to say to all you lot potentially coming from a mk2 to a mk3 is that the plastic battery mod doesnt fit

You can compare a GTI or R against the new Cupra on the link above, it gives estimates of residuals as well as other stats
