This seems like a great idea!

193bhp and 203ftlbs with just this filter setup.

no heat soak as the cold air hits the filter straight on through the grill,

Pretty much pointless enclosing a cone, you'll have less surface area than the stock filter and its still using the same intake as the OE filter.

Fit an open cone as posted above.

Excellent I thought there wouldn't be much cold air getting in

Take it the engine cover doesn't fit now ?

Do you remember what size piping you used ? And where did you connect the breather filter to?

also is it hard to get out the filter box or does it just pull off it's mounts.

Finally do you get a induction rawr. I'm used to a bmw six pot and I miss the noise

Thanks

So using a k&n air filter is pointless? I made a post today about it and was told i would benefit! Would I have to take the air box out and use something different? Not very clued up here but want to make the modification!

No not pointless if you fit them how they're supposed to be fitted.

If you want more noise then have an open cone in the engine bay, thats where they're designed to be fitted. If you want to keep your standard airbox then fit a panel filter that drops in. Putting a cone filter in an enclosed stock airbox is pointless.

Sounds like you should be going for an open cone like the one fitted in the earlier picture. You'll need to change the intake to suit it though.

70mm 90degree (i used a 70-80mm adapter to run my larger filter_

Getting the airbox out is piss easy iirc you have a screw that attaches to the car at the back and then it should just pull off there is a mounting at the bottom

this is a great idea, because it's my great idea, my video of my air box. not pointless as it is fastest MK5 in the UK, so it works.

So is a cone filter like a k&n good in an air box? Everyone is saying different on different posts haha!

I have removed some plastic parts that restricted the airflow to airbox. this has to be done with front bumper off. works as it ran a 4.99 0 to 60mph. this is something you have to look at yourself to understand.

So what 0-60 was it running before?

And I'm sure it would be the fastest if it used a different induction kit too. Bearing in mind your car was/is stripped out from the front seats back, using 1.2's and R888's iirc on a track with glue/VHT when that run was done.

The 4.99 time was set on a loose concrete surface running uphill at Brungingthorpe runway. The air filter didn't hold it back. Green filter used is said to flow enough air for an engine of up to 400bhp. Cost was under £100 for project inc filter + custom s/steel mount needed for filter.
