Oil grade lcr 210

Hello I have a lcr 210 03 plate with a few mods what oil would everyone use when servicing as I have had mix people say either 5/30 or 5/40 Cheers

5W30 is what VW recommend for these engines, some folk prefer 5W40 which is a bit "thicker" especially now these engines are getting on a bit. I personally use Castrol Edge 5W30, so long as its a reputable brand and fully synthetic you can't go far wrong IMO.

The handbook states 5w30 or 5w40 can be used so they are both recommended. People use 5w40 not because there getting on abit. I use it personally because mine is tuned and therefore running temps when booting it are higher. Higher temps thin the oil out therefore offering less protection. 5w 40 will offer more protection than 5w30 at high temps

On the subject of oil, what is the significance of 504 507 numbers regards VW spec oil ?
I too would like to try that 5w40 Helix stuff but i bet it doesnt have the VW numbers on the bottle
Does it really matter ???

It has the vw numbers and it says it's okay from the 502 up to the 505

I just bought fuchs Titan 5w30 as my car standard at the min... But my dealer had qauntum platinum 5w40 there and the price is good too any one using this or have used it??
