Electric Water Pump

Given that the mechanical water pump is known to fail has anybody tried replacing it with an electric one ?

(I did do a search first - honest)

Something like this.

Hence why I thought an electric pump might be a good mod/replacement.

All new dealer ones now use an upgraded plastic impeller

and you can also get metal impeller ones from Euro etc

Gates cam belt kit come with a metal impeller got one last week 150 quid

As above, most aftermarket pumps come with metal impellas on them now too.

The failure point is the plastic....and that looks like its made from plastic.

Like the theory though!

I would expect an electric pump is more suseptable to failure than the belt driven mechanical one
You need to make sure the wiring wasn't going to get snagged in the belt youd need to feed a supply to it with protection (like a fuse) and ideally add something like an ammeter to its supply as if it blew or stopped you wouldn't know until it over heated
