Hi all - Interested in your feedback for those who have the adaptive cruise control, I do a fair amount of M/Way driving so not sure whether to spec this or not, never driven a car with it! From what I read it seems good, and lane assist maybe not so!

Thanks...

Personally, I love it. I have the DSG, and it works pretty beautifully with it...not sure exactly whether it would be just as useful with a manual trans. I use it a lot on all types of roads: motorways, city start/stop driving, and even country roads. It becomes very intuitive very quickly when you need to cancel it and take over (obviously red lights/zebra crossings, turning sharp corners, roundabouts).

Having said all that (controversially?) I also really like the lane assist.

I don't have ACC, but I do have the lane assist and would have to agree. Whilst I'm not 100% sure that I'd spec it if I was buying from new (bought ex-demo) it is very very useful in certain situations. It might sound a little stupid, but on really windy, open roads, or in extremely heavy rain, the lane assist can be so useful in helping you to put all your concentration into potential hazards

I'd actually get the driver assist pack for the high beam assist alone, I don't think the pack is crazy expensive? (could be wrong) but the high beam assist I rate very highly

Yeh, I find it very handy on motorway speed restricted areas, through road works where there are average speed cameras.
It's amazing how you have to keep checking the speed in the fr, quiet engine and eager to use its horses it's easy to exceed for flashing !!

Before I ordered my ST I was lucky enough to have a hire car from work which had a DSG 'box and ACC (it was a Golf as it happens).

It was a revelation. I'd never even considered having an auto 'box before but after a week with that setup I couldn't think of going back. It really was one of those moments where you experience something new and afterwards can't imagine why you ever did it any differently. The combination of the DGS and the ACC in busy motorway traffic just takes all the stress and worry out of the drive.

That completely changed what I was looking for in the car and led almost directly to discovering the Leon ST. The fact that it turned out to be such a beautiful and techie car was just icing on the cake :D

I'm now eagerly awaiting my car, fully specced with DSG, ACC and lane assist (which I haven't experienced first hand but like the sound of). Was given a provisional week 30 build date by the dealer which implies an mid-august pick up. Can't wait :D

I'd certainly spec if it wasn't standard on a golf, lowers insurance group too, however I think it uses more fuel than standard cruise control as its constantly slowing and speeding up depending on the car in front and in my experience the car in front is often a moron :D

Well I don't want to be too harsh to my fellow driver but say I'm driving on the motorway and I'm with the Mrs so I have to be eco mode etc and I keep hearing "it's not a race you know" in a shrieky voice next to me, so I set the acc to 70 and get in the first or middle lane dependant on lorries and the berk in front is constantly dropping to 60 then speeding up etc cos they don't know how to use cc and it just ruins your mpg. I've said it before and I'll say it again I get better mpg by setting the speed limiter to 70 and sticking my foot to the floor

Acc

Don't normally offer comment, but have to say that with an FR ST with all the extras, the ACC is probably the most useful and safety orientated function that I use nearly all the time. Very good for keeping to speed limit!

I've driven a few cars with it, in all sorts of traffic

At it's best with an Auto 'box, but still great in a manual

If a car I was ordering had it as an option - it'd be the first thing I'd tick

Tried this when I test drove a Golf R, if i was to ever buy one would be DSG and ACC, awesome bit of kit, especially great in think fog as it will "see" carsa and slow down well before you could

Got another question on ACC - If you have this on your car and engage cruise, is the ACC switchable? Can you run standard cruise on its own with ACC off and turn it on if needed?

And with ACC, do you get a different configuration of steering stalks / controls?
