Hi

Just looking in my Service book to see when the Timing Belt is due, the car is 4yrs old in October but when looking it states that the timing belt is not due until 120,000 miles?

Surely this cannot be right? It also doesn't state any time period?

When are the timing belts due?

It used to be 4 years or 120,000 but now they say 5 years for the belt they changed their minds earlier this year. I got mine changed mine at 4 years to be on the safe side.

Spot on, not due until next year then but I might get it done to be safe.

Thanks

My garage says 4 years but I phoned seat uk and they have assured me it's every 5 years. So I will follow what seat uk has told me and what the website says as well.

Meant to say my car is the fr cr170 and not a cupra, but the timing belt 5 year recommendation is across the board for all belt driven seat cars. They wouldn't recommend 5 years if they thought there was a chance of belts snapping earlier.

I'd get it done as soon as. Think of the cost of changing it vs the cost of it breaking... It's a no brainer :p

Yep, I've just got mine, 2010, 30K on the clock, last service 2000 ago, but I'm getting it in for a major service and no doubt the belt done at the end of the month... There's just so many goodies, it's hard not to be tempted in to 'uch, I'll do it next month' lol

Touch wood, but has anyone on here had a belt snap on them before the 5 year interval?

I changed mine ( plus water pump) after 4 years and was only on 30k miles and to be fair the belt looked like brand new.

Oldish bump, is it still recommended to do the water pump at the same time as the cambelt on the FL cars?

I'd recommend it on any car, especially for the cost of the waterpump, minimal extra labour (if any)

Genuine pumps are only 30-odd quid on exchange basis

In Portugal, I have e-mailed 10 stealers asking for a quote to change the belt and all said the same for a 170cr:

Time limite: NONE
Distance Limit: 130k miles

Genuine SEAT Parts and Accessories.
