They're just silly rules mate. They introduced r134a in place of r12 which was a CFC, hole in the ozone layer, melting glaciers and all that now all of a sudden this new gas is harmful. Furthermore the new r1234yf gas has failed safety tests because it's highly explosive when heated!

I think 134a has been classed as a domestic gas where as r134a is an industrial refrigerant, hence the legality of its use.

The refrigerant gasses get released in cycles to comply with new regulations they are there to protect the Enviroment.
I work on military air conditioning systems and r134a is still going to be used for quite some time , we use a couple of kilos in some of our systems.
The new refrigerant for cars has not been standardised yet with a split on what to use between manufacturers , we have been testing different refrigerants not generally because of the hydrocarbons or fluorocarbons but mainly down to the temperaturers of the Enviroment.

Well it makes no sense to use a gas that's highly unstable thus explosive in a vehicle that'll potentially be deployed in the desert, for example.

Especcially if it comes under fire!

We don't and never will
You have to remember car manufacturers get all sorts or £ benefits for complying to the latest legislation , one refrigerant we use is a propellant used in fire extinguishers !

Air con trouble

Hi has anyone had this problem on my 2006 mk 2 Leon fr well firstly the air con fan is noisy and shifts little air you would have thought by the noise of the fan which is nearly as noisy as the euro fighter it would blast out but no ?? Secondly when got in car and started I noticed inside screen started to fog up so while driving pressed the front screen demister button only to have screen completely fog over so I couldn't actually see and had to stop .!! I mean u would expect it to get clearer not the opposite bloody dangerous my mk1 Leon was better no trouble with that . Please if u know anything that would cure this would be great to know over wise I going to get a mk 1 again

Ok final post on this one I think. Diagnosed as low Aircon coolant. Regased- now working fine. 50 quid with a free car wash thrown in- would have been good if it was covered under warranty!!
